About Me

FYI We are moving homes right now. After things are settled in we'll start accepting guests :)

“You will be the same person in five years as you are today except for the people you meet and the books you read.”

We take that philosophy as a way of life. We would also argue that travel should be listed among books and people.

I, Jacob, work in Marketing. I love my field because it allows me to tap into people, thoughts, and ideas in a way that most jobs just wouldn't offer. Learning about people and myself is the driving force in my life. From books, to movies, to small gatherings around a dinner table, I simply love anything that allows me to connect with others more deeply than the day-to-day usually allows. Outside of work and people, I enjoy the outdoors and like to pretend I know how to write.

HIIII I'm Jess (his wife)!! Second to Jake, traveling would have to be the love of my life. I love to take every opportunity to see things I've never seen before and to meet people different from me and eating new food. I grew up in a military family and lived all over the States as well as in Bury St. Edmunds, England. I am enjoying every minute of living in Florida but I can never get rid of the travel bug. When I'm home, I love going to the beach, kayaking, paddle boarding, and baking!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Similar to what we've said in the about me section, we both strongly believe that traveling and meeting new people will, in turn, make us better people. We want to share our home and stay with those individuals with who we can share and learn about culture, ideas, food, and many other things.

Music, Movies, and Books

Jacob: To Pimp A Butterfly, Goodwill Hunting, Hillbilly Elegy, Man's Search For Meaning, Love's Executioner, Way of the Peaceful Warrior, Father John Misty, Fleet Foxes, Ratatouille

Jessica: Music - Jon Bellion, Panic at the Disco, Demi Lovato, Johnnyswim, All Sons and Daughters.
Movies - Anything fun that makes me smile, Moana and Hairspray would both be in my top 5.
I don't read a ton of books but I LOVE podcasts and am completely hooked on How I Built This.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Jess: I went ziplining through the rainforest in Costa Rica and celebrated Shabbat with an Orthodox Jewish family in their home in Jerusalem. Lastly, it doesn't sound nearly as cool but I took a sick day when I lived in Washington DC for a few months and just explored the museums and city alone and that was one of the best days I've ever had.

Jacob: Accidentally became part of a political march in South Africa. By the time I figured out what was going on, I was having too much of a good time to stop. I've caught and released bull sharks while deep-sea fishing. I once owned 47 animals at the same time.

Teach, Learn, Share

Jacob: it can be boring, but I know a bit about marketing and I love to talk about it. I would love to learn about local music scenes around the world. Let's share band recommendations!

Jessica: I know a bit about baking and houseplants! I would love to learn about your culture and the places you have been. Let's share a drink!
