Sobre mí

CURRENT MISSION

My mission is to lead a free and interesting life; to have as much fun as possible (i.e. intellectual fun) and forever grow.

ABOUT ME

I am laid back, middle aged but forever young in mind and spirit; athletic, energetic, and adventurous. I believe in respecting all people and treating people with kindness.

I am a musician but with piano it is difficult to practice while traveling so I am often out of practice. I also start painting once I settle somewhere.

I´ve been living abroad for most of the last 16 years. I lived in Caracas from 94 to 98, Barcelona from 98 to 99, New York from 99 to 2000, Madrid and Barcelona again from 2000 to 2003 and South Korea from 2003 to 2010 (except for 6 months in 2008 which I spent in Mexico City).

When not abroad I lived in New York City (Manhattan); Soho, Upper West Side, and on 5th Avenue near the Flatiron Building. Des Moine is my current U.S. address as my long time friend lives there and that´s where my things are. When I return, I will probably live in NY again or maybe Boston.

I do speak Spanish. My level was getting quite high in 2003 to the point where I was helping a professional translator. However, after 7 years in South Korea I am falta practica.

I like to talk on a wide range of temas over a cup or three of some good coffee. I`m an enthusiastic conversationist, especially when the other party is enthusiastic.

Just think of me as a kind of Bob Marley or Bob Dylan and you´ll be pretty close. I will never be old.

I´m kicking around the idea of going into an art school, music school or film school. I have to do some more research. For now I´m in Buenos Aires; just arrived and getting sorted out.

BTW: I am a nonsmoker.

PHILOSOPHY

Live free, enjoy your time being alive and as Thoreau said, "live the life you imagine". This is a short journey; if you ALWAYS remember this, your life will pass well.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I´ve only just heard about this community recently from a friend who has been a member for some time. For now I am traveling but as soon as I settle again, either here in BA, Montevideo, or back in the US; I will definitely host travelers.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My CouchSurfing experience so far has been great. In my many years of traveling I´ve met some outstanding people. People so warm hearted that it brings a smile to my face when I think of them. Great people can be found anywhere; whether or not you encounter them has to do with your state of mind (spirit).

Intereses

Music (I´ve studied jazz piano off and on for many years)

Art; esp oil painting (love Joan Miro, the Impressionists, Kandinsky, Van Gough...) I paint when I'm settled somewhere.

Languages; I love to speak Spanish, it breaks my heart I´m so out of practice with it. I had hoped to learn French but don´t know if that will happen.

I´m interested in many things. I think the world is a fascinating place and I see beauty everywhere. I think it is the gift for having a good heart.

Música, películas y libros

Movies: Ah, so many! Here´s a sampling off the top of my head:

Spanish Movies: Belle Epoque, Il Postino, El Abuelo...

American Movies: The Game, Basic Instinct, The Thief, In God´s Hands (surfing movie), Point Break (surfing movie), The Schoolboy Who Sailed Around the World (doc), The Russia House, Legends of the Fall, Three Days of the Condor, Serpico...

Authors: Henry Miller, Henry David Thoreau, Carlos Castaneda...

I like books and movies about being or getting free.

Music: I like so many kinds of music that it´s difficult to answer. Flamenco (esp Camaron de la Isla), classic rock, ska, reggae, salsa, soul, hard rock, classical, jazz, R&B, country...

Algo increíble que he hecho

I have lots to tell, believe me, but if you ask me on the spot I can´t think of anything. Once I´m in a conversation, all kinds of memories get triggered. I really need to be in a conversation to write this.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

I can tell you about Korea as I have lived and worked all over the country; about Caracas, Barcelona, Aranjuez, Toledo, New York City (I lived in Manhattan for 3 years.) I can explain to you jazz keyboard harmony. I can help you practice your English.
