About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Meeting local people when I travel, and hosting travelers in my home
ABOUT ME
Warm, funny, a bit nerdy, dog-lover, gardener. I enjoy socializing and dancing, but I am do not usually engage in wild parties.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Hosting and surfing. I live in a rural area between Seattle and the Olympic Peninsula, a great jumping-off point for trips to Port Townsend, Olympic hiking, the Hood Canal. lots of great day hikes.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
My husband and I had a GREAT surfing experience in Slovakia--shared good meals, hiking, and local history. I have plenty of experience couchsurfing with friends, family, and friends-of-friends. I love staying with local people and seeing what they like about where they live, and I love hosting people, learning about their lives, and showing them where I live. When I stay with other people, I respect the rules of their household.
Interests
I love gardening, biking, and sitting around reading or talking in cafes. I'm a fan of walking around interesting cities, but also a fan of walking around in the wilderness--mountains, tundra, seashore, grasslands, you name it. I've sung in choruses, and also play a little guitar and piano. I am a biologist by training, and love getting to know the plants and animals where I travel. Lately I've been enjoying experimenting with ways to use and preserve the fruits and veggies that we grow.

Music, Movies, and Books
I have eclectic tastes. I grew up with classical, the Beatles, and Simon and Garfunkel (which I still enjoy), but I also like funk, alt country, gypsy, old school and new school/golden age hip hop, jazz, folk, balkan, classic rock, you name it.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
New Year's Eve on Observation Hill in Antarctica. Decided at the last minute to skip the party at the New Zealand station and climb the hill, and found a handful of others there as well. We shared a bottle of Dom Perignon, the first and only time I've had it.
Teach, Learn, Share
Things I could share: conservation biology, wildlife management, climate change., canning and dehydrating fruit. Could also teach a little guitar and piano, but nothing too advanced.
Things I'd like to learn: cooking new kinds of food
What I Can Share with Hosts
Tales of the world, songs.
