About Me

I'm a writer, a thinker and an explorer, so I'm always looking for a good story or an opportunity to learn something new.

I grew up in Southern California, lived for five years Northern California's Sacramento area, and moved to the San Diego area in 2012. After working a few years as a journalist, I now work in political consulting.

I’m gay and I’m happy to host LGBT travelers.

PHILOSOPHY

"Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer." -- Rainier Maria Rilke

It's important both to experience and learn as much as possible in life, as well as to give back and do things in a way that makes the world a better place.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I first used Couchsurfing in the summer of 2013 when I spent a month in Israel and the Palestinian Territories. Now that I work full-time and have an apartment, I am usually hosting.

As a host, my ideal couchsurfer guest is interested in more than just a place to sleep for the night. I am actually genuinely interested in cultural exchange, making friends, having good conversation, learning something new through the people I meet here.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am relatively new to the Couchsurfing website itself, with my first Couchsurfing experience in 2013, but I also have plenty of experience hosting and surfing with friends.

Interests

Slacklining, electronic dance music, beer and craft brewing, wine, hiking, concerts, dancing, reading, writing, journalism, politics, cooking, seeing new things, live music and much, much more.

Music, Movies, and Books

I am a big fan of indie music, especially indie pop, hip hop, and rock. I also enjoy electronic dance music, and some mainstream hip hop.

As far as books, I do read a lot, but I tend to bounce around between different books before I ever finish one. The one I've been rather obsessed with lately is called "From the Holy Mountain." It's a travelogue written by a British guy who traveled through all of the old Eastern Orthodox cities from the Byzantine Empire, and writes about how much they've changed today (he traveled in 1994).

I also just finished a great book about the last days of the Inca Empire in the face of Spanish conquistadors in the 16th century.

Teach, Learn, Share

I may be able to teach you how to write more clearly and concisely. I can also try teach you how to slackline, which is a really fun recreational activity that involves balancing on a long, narrow strip of stretchy trampoline material.
