About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To expand my world view! I don't want the scope of my life to be limited to my hometown or the US for that matter.

ABOUT ME

I'm interesting in learning more about the world. I'm dense.....so reading books just isn't good enough. I have to see it to believe. My favorite way to experience culture is through food. I think what you eat says a lot about you personally and people from similar backgrounds. I enjoy music, art and sports. I run 1/2 marathons (1 full marathon....yuck) and spend all my time working to save money for my next trip

PHILOSOPHY

I believe you should try most things once. I like to say yes to things and not try to set limits for myself. I realize that I got caught in a bubble some times where I feel comfortable....but I do my best to stray outside. Being a well rounded person and exposing yourself to many things is important I believe in mind of matter, to an extent. You can't do anything you believe you can't do.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I would love to participate in this site a little more....hosting or surfing. I doubt I'd have much of an opportunity to host. Not many people want to visit Sciotoville.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

i have met fellow couch surfer in Italy! We had a great time.

Music, Movies, and Books

I don't really like to read. Mostly because I have trouble concentrating, but i'm interested in realistic fiction like John Steinbeck...historical accounts, biographies of great people and good self help books. I'll watch most movies but I don't have much tolerance for love stories...hard for them to hold my attention. I love most any kind of music but I generally just don't get into country music.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I don't know if any of these qualify as amazing: The view of Hong Kong at night from the Peak, Grand Canyon at Sunrise, Night market culture in Taiwan, Alaska Highway #1, running a marathon (never again), free falling through the air from mile high, the house that Babe Ruth built, a perfectly cooked 16 ounce dry-aged prime Ribeye, LeBron James dunk on Dwight Howard in the playoffs, Aerosmith live! My mother kick cancer's ass for 2 years despite the odds....before finally being beaten.... Just some the highlights

Teach, Learn, Share

I grew up in the bible belt in Ohio. People around here tend to fall into few categories...the average person from my home town ends up staying in the area. The best lesson I've learned in life thus far is that if I want to do something, I should. Simply put, make a decision and start implementing a plan to complete it. Strive to participate in something new, say yes to something you would normally say no to.....and even if you don't love it, learn to appreciate it. I hope that people actually come to a self realization of truth about what they believe but I'm skeptical, I think more people believe what they do because thats the only thing they know. My first journey out of the US (other than Canada), took me to Taiwan. What I could physically see there contradicted so many things that I once believed to be true. I learned how little I really know. I believe that we owe it to ourselves to seek truth and to learn to love our "brothers" everywhere in the world. We should be willing to accept that maybe what we know isn't the only truth there is. In summation, I try to be open in most aspects of my life....at the end I think I will sum the parts and create a composite philosophy for myself, based on what I have seen, learned and observed. We can ask no less from ourselves or our fellow man.
