About Me

About ourselves...
We came back to HK after 2 years of travelling and spent 4 months renovating our flat. We used a lot of 2nd hand furnitures and reclaimed wood to make everything from scratch including kitchen cabinets, so our flat may not be as flash as other home. But we are proud of this little space we created which to us is very cosy and welcoming. We are interested in talking to people, knowing their stories, not necessarily related to their cultures, it could be your travel experience, your life experience or your view on something. Of course we would like to know your culture and it would be great to learn something from each other, it can be a custom foreigners never heard of, food or um...anything we dont know. It be a great bonus if you know anything about renovation/gardening or even help out in our roof top renovation. Equally it is our pleasure to tell you something authentic about HK/Chinese, or if you are interested we can tell you anything we have experienced during our travel or work.

Both of us work and may not be able to show you around. We try to accept hosting only when we have some time off or if work is not too demanding. Despite most CSers are very independent, it still takes time and energy to interact with each other. So please excuse us if we decline you to come over on a day when we are both working, we do not like CSers to see two zombies at night. ;p

We would not be able to show people around the touristy spots such as the peak, disney land....(of course we can help with direction and public transport tips), those you can do it on your own. However, if you are interested to see the other side of HK, such as little fishing village, old buildings, wet market and the nature of HK, provied that we have time and we clicks ;) , we would be very happy to come exploring with you. There are plenty of hiking or water sports activities you can do around where we live.

We are interested in hands on stuff such as building/repairing furnitures, gardening, making bread (sourdough in particular), drawing, writing, reading, hiking, watching movies and of course meeting people. We try to be as eco friendly as possible, we do recycling, composting for our roof top vegetables and we eat very little meat and if possible try to be locally produced.

We are happy to accept individual traveller or couple (max 2 people at a time) for 2-3days. Last mintue request would probably be no to us as we would prefer to have some communication with you beforehand, perhaps we can organise time off from work to bring you around.

We are flexatarian, we prefer plant based diet but do eat some meat esp seafood about once a week. We hope that surfers respect our living style and treat our place with respect. Keep her clean and tidy. We are both cruisy people who enjoy quiet slow life, so we hope the travellers enjoy the same rather than having party at our place. Please keep voice/music down at night as we tend to sleep early, as does the neighbourhood. We do not like the idea of having wifi shooting around our house all the time, so we only turn if on as needed and use it mainly for emailing. We are happy to share internet with you for emailing but this is not unlimited wifi (so not video call sorry). If you need to upload photos or video calling... you can do it at local cafes (plenty hip cafes around) or library (5min walk) which provide free unlimited wifi.

Please forgive us if we do not reply you, it could be because we are too busy, or we recognise your message is a mass message (copy and paste, and do not address on our names) or it is a very last mintue request. Anyway, we hope to meet you, if not, have a great time in HK!

About our place...
We live in a beautiful part of Hong Kong, at the countryside which is surrounded by hills and sea. There is plenty of public transport stops within walking distance of where we live. We have our own little village flat which can be shared with others.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Wwoofed and helpXed at 35 different hosts for 1.5 years in the UK, Belgium, France, Spain, Portugal and Austria (countries continue to increase)-met up with loads of interesting people from Sourdough Specialist, British actor, famous painter, woodcrafter, farmers of all sorts, musicians, chefs, healer to people of all age and all genders. Learning different skills and lessons-from how to cook the perfect fish and chips, Bacalhau a Braz, gardening tips, making sourdough, making wild garlic pesto, cooking the perfect pasta, blacksmithing, woodturning to building a straw-bale house.

Carrying and keep sharing our Rye Soughdough Starter with over 30 friend across Europe (we got her from a soughdough specialist in the UK and have been carrying her with us for almost a year!) now we are not carrying her anymore (we used her to make the last batch of sourdough for our long Siberian train journey), but we can teach how to make your how to make your own starter.

Now we're still keeping another living thing -- WATER KEFIR GRAINS , hope to share more information with people who is interesting in this ancient healthy natural drink. (We are still keeping this with us in our backpack)

Visiting Tibet 4 times in a year!

Visiting India with the expected post-Indian travelling sickness (stomach upset).

Trekking in Nepal-AMAZING Mountains and people

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach
Our languages, Authentic Chinese cooking (with no msg)- we can share our modified simple baked vegetarian spring rolls, teach how to make sourdough and water kefir, Chinese Calligraphy

Learn
Too many things to learn, we believe there are always things to learn from everyone, especially the one whom you think you have nothing to learn from (they always teach you the most-be it a good lesson or a bad lesson). So we keep an open-minded attitude

Share
In the process of writing a book about our work exchange journey in the UK and Europe.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Kefir grains- water kefir (not milk kefir)-this is how the ancient people make lemonade! Shared kindly by a French helpx hostess. We are now sharing it with others.

Cooking authentic Asian meals (such as Spring rolls-baked one not deep fried), Sourdough making

Eva's ugly sketches and Carmen's Chinese calligraphy (please see photos)

Ideas and stories we collected from our year long wwoofing/helpxing
