Please read this PREFACE first, before reading ABOUT, HOME and anything else in my profile, especially if you're a new CS member. It is there not only to save your time and mine, but also to give you tips on writing a high-quality stay request, being a good CS guest or host, and also tips on safety in using CS, especially for women and solo female travellers. (But I have had men also messaging me to say that the advice on my profile is helpful even for men as well, so it is for everyone really.)

(♪♫ For example, women, if I were you, I would not stay with single male hosts who only host women, because, even if they had positive references, it makes me to wonder what their motivation is in being here, in doing CS that way and what they could try to get out of by having only females staying with them. - Of course this doesn't mean that all male hosts falling into this category are people that women travellers ought to stay away from. But I know what I would do.
(((*****!!!!!!!!!! However, having said that, I have come across straight female surfers who only host guys as well with their reference from past surfers telling about their motivation of being on CS. Some women hosts also misuse CS as some men hosts do. If they are 'lonely', they can search 'dating sites' and go to those. Why some women and men - some bright and well educated with postgraduate degrees - do not have the brains to think CS is an appropriate platform to use for dating is an 8th wonder of the world mystery. My advice? Avoid this kind of hosts !!!!!!!!!!*****)))
♪♫ My recommendation is that if you are a solo female traveller new to CS, try staying with female hosts, families or couples first, and as you gain more travelling and hosting experience, stay with male hosts later. - But I would stick to male hosts who host both men and women, and hosts with good, verifiable references - and not a couple of references from blank CS profiles that could be written by themselves or by their associates.
♪♫ Please read the articles and watch videos in the links below. If you are new to CS as a traveller, especially as a solo female traveller, try gathering as much information about your host as you can --their contact details, social media, work and other websites etc.-- and pass it to your family/friends, so that your loved ones and next of kin know where you are and with whom while travelling and staying at strangers' places. You would need a back up plan, i.e. somewhere else to go in case your chosen host's place was not deemed suitable or safe for you.)

(♪♫ This video's audio quality isn't great, and for those with little English, you may struggle to understand. The gist is that Amanda was travelling solo using CS and found a female host who said she would host her so she went to her place.
♪♫ But shortly before the meeting time, that female host sent a message to Amanda saying that there is an emergency that's come about and she has to go away for a few days, but that she would arrange for her good male friend to host her instead. (At this point, Amanda should have seen that this is a red flag and gone to another host or a hotel instead.) Amanda met with him by going to his place.
♪♫ At his place, he did a lot more than just coming on to her or making her uncomfortable. Making inappropriate bodily touches is just not OK. (Amanda says she didn't feel she could run away as it was late at night and in the middle of nowhere with little options.) He did this again later while she was sleeping.
♪♫ Fortunately she was OK in the end, but it could so easily have been much worse. It turns out that that original female host didn't exist, and he was a serial offender using this kind of tricks to lure women to his home to do goodness knows what. You see, you ought to trust your instincts and deal with it if there is a red flag with your host, or if at any point you feel your safety is at risk, leave immediately.)

The above were safety precautions for the benefit of new CS members as some people aren't aware of or well versed with these, including my friends - some of my lovely CS women hosts that I have been privileged to have encountered, who, when they were travelling using CS, didn't always have nice experiences.

A). YOU WON'T GET A 1-MONTH FREE STAY ON CS.

Sometimes I get strange stay requests from people with wrong ideas on what CS is, like asking me to offer them a 2-week or even a 2-month stay. If you are new to CS and didn't quite research enough to look it up to understand, let me tell you people. Couchsurfing is not an 'accommodation' (or free accommodation) website. It is a 'travel and hospitality sharing' community website.
♪♫ Most hosts on CS would host you only for a few nights like 2, 3 or 4 nights, or maybe a week at best if you're lucky to find a host who would have you that long. (Yes, a week to be hosted on CS is quite long and you'd find it hard to come by.) You would not find a host who would give you free accommodation for 2 weeks, a month or 3 months. (Or if someone did offer you that, for me that would be a red flag and I would be very careful on what their ulterior motive is in giving you free accommodation for weeks and months on end, as that doesn't sound right and there may be something that is wrong with that host. In English, we say: "If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.")
♪♫ So if you are going to London for a 2-month internship, work or study exchange programme, please go to search for proper, long-term accommodation on accommodation websites. You won't find anyone giving you a free room to stay in London for 2 months (or even 2 weeks) on CS. - If someone did, something would not be right with such an offer and I would be concerned.

B). FOR FEMALE TRAVELLERS ESPECIALLY

Women travellers (especially solo travellers), my recommendation is that you look for other hosts than choosing to stay with male hosts who state in the HOME description section of their CS profile that they only host females, or male hosts who say that they would host guests of any gender but when you look at their references it turns out that they have only hosted women - especially 'young' and 'hot' looking women only.

C). IF YOUR ARRIVAL TIME IN MEETING YOUR HOST IS VERY LATE, DO THIS:

(♪♫ First of all, as you would see if you read the articles and videos in the links far above, it is recommended that you do NOT arrive late in evening to meet your CS host, in case something is wrong there and you need to decide to leave and go to your backup plan or find somewhere else to stay. But if you don't have a choice, for example, your flight arrival is 9pm or later, please read this: This is where some guests who could have been offered a place to stay by me failed.)
♪♫ If your flight arrival time is late at night, please have the courtesy to state this at the outset (i.e. at the very beginning when you first contact the host). (It does not mean I or other hosts won't accept your request to stay if your arrival time is midnight or later. Some would, some wouldn't. So you need to mention this and talk about it with them. But you can at least say it early and ask about it.)
♪♫ I have had guests who did not mention this until we exchanged a few messages and I agreed to host them, only then to say that their flight lands at Stansted Airport in London (one of 6 airports in London, very far from central London) at 10:30pm, so that when they come to central London, it would be about midnight or 0:30 in the morning (night!), and when they get to my flat, it would be about 1:30am or 2:30am.
♪♫ Now, I could have still hosted them, because I could either have stayed up that late to see them in at their arrival or arrange a self-check-in. But I decided not to host them, because it makes me to question this: If they can't respect that this is my home and there are ordinary people living here going to work and study, and they don't even bother to ask me if such a late-hour check-in is going to be OK for me or others living in my flat, is this person then going to be respectful to other people living in my home? The answer was a 'no'.)

(Even if you are to book a private home rental accommodation --see below-- you should ask the host at the outset if arriving at midnight to check-in is OK, let alone Couchsurfing booking. CS is not a free hotel with 24-hour reception.)

♦♣♣♣ Please do NOT treat hosts' homes as a free hostel or treat hosts as all-night, 24-hour receptionists. If you approach hosts in this way on Couchsurfing, your request to stay with them is likely to be declined.

♦♣♣♣ Hotel / private home stay difference

So people, please know this. You know what the difference is between a hotel with 24-hour reception and most of private home stay platforms and websites? Private home stay is staying with ordinary people like you, your mum and dad, in ordinary people's homes. Private home stay hosts and others living in their homes go to work, and they have university classes starting at 9am etc.

♦♣♣♣ Private home stay / Couchsurfing difference

Now, do you know what the difference is between most of private home stay platforms/websites and Couchsurfing? They are both staying in ordinary people's home but the former (most of them are paying BnB websites) is pretty much a professionally marketed paying accommodation service, while the latter is a free hospitality sharing community platform for travellers. Therefore the latter's hosts (Couchsurfing hosts) are already going above and beyond to help others and travellers like you, compared to the former (hosts of paying private Bed and Breakfast accommodation businesses). Surely, you can show some appreciation to your prospective CS host by telling them at the outset if your arrival time is late.

♦♣♣♣ Please mention to hosts late arrival at the outset and ask if it's OK

If your arrival time at your host's home is late such as 9pm or 10pm (never mind midnight or 2am), you should mention this at the outset (when you first contact hosts) and ask them if it's OK, and not leave it till later and only mention it after the host has offered you a place to stay.

►►►This is why I am more likely to accept a stay request from genuine travellers who are here to travel and discover the world, especially someone from a poorer country with less chance of foreign travels who wants interactions with local hosts, than those from the US, western EU or Brits in other cities in the UK visiting London to attend a gig or their mates' party asking to be hosted.
►►►This is why I would especially strive to open my doors and accommodate you if I get a stay request from those from developing countries or those who are disabled, senior-aged, BME (ethnic minorities population), LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) and other sections of the population that are at a disadvantage in society, or are often marginalised, excluded or ostracised.
►►►This is why sometimes when I get 2 or more offers from hosts when I travel and send a stay request, I could be more likely to accept the offer to stay from a host with fewer or little references --contrary to safety and common CS use advice!, and after undertaking due diligence to ensure that they are a genuine host who'd be safe for me to stay with-- who are new to CS and want to travel themselves one day using CS by gaining good references, than a host already with numerous references and who has already travelled quite a bit, because I want to help others. (Because I want to help new CS members to gain references by hosting me so as for them to have more opportunities of being accepted by other CS hosts when they travel in future and send stay requests.)
►►►Also your request to be hosted by me is more likely to be accepted if you host yourself. If for years you have only travelled as a guest using CS and never hosted yourself, I would need to hear why or what extenuating circumstances you have for me to host you. CS is not a 'free-hotel'. It is a community to help each other. If you are not giving anything back to the community, perhaps now is the time you'd like to reflect on this and take alternative approaches in using CS?
►►►If I do not accept your request or offer to stay, please try to understand and not feel bad. There would be someone out there for you. I wish you the best with your endeavours.
►►►However, my door is open to everyone unlike some hosts, for example, some male hosts who only host females or who say they'd host both F and M but their references show that they have only hosted hot women - who apparently are here on CS for other agendas. Regardless of and whoever you are - female or male, fair or dark skinned, gay or straight, older or younger, slim or generously-sized, considered attractive or something else etc., whatever your background and looks, anybody is welcome at my home to be hosted by me, as long as you are a genuine CS user and a complete nonsmoker. Even though the safety advice on using CS includes communicating with hosts and guests who do have a profile photo, I do not put my pics here. With my photos, I operate in the same way as UK public sector employers' and a well known private home rental site's blind selection policy, i.e. you would get to see me or my photo would be shown to you after you have accepted and confirmed my offer to be hosted by me or after you have offered for me to be hosted by you. (In case you wonder whether I am real and genuine due to lack of profile photos, you can look at my references and make up your mind.)

(In the British public sector and civil service, when a candidate sends their CV for a job with their photo or other completely irrelevant personal details such as religion, marital status/sexual orientation, how many (or if any) children they have etc., such applications either get disqualified or those details get deleted before the filtered-out CV (that then would only have relevant information for the job such as qualifications, employment history, skills/competence and how many sick days taken in the past years etc.) being sent to the selection panel. The well known private home rental site's is the same in that their system is set in a way that hosts and guests cannot see each other's photos, and only after the booking is confirmed, their photos are disclosed and get shown.)

Why? Isn't it obvious? Surely it can't be rocket science. It's because the ugly human nature means that without such measures, black or minority people (or someone who doesn't look like a Brod Pit or Nicola Kidwoman and isn't considered attractive) hardly get offers to be hosted, and only bimbo types --i.e. sexy girls with a pretty face and probably not much brain, or whatever is the masculine equivalent of a bimbo-- end up getting a lot of offers.

If you don't like this blind selection that I am operating with my CS profile and feel the need to see my face and how I look or my colour before you decide whether to host me or be hosted by me, you can look away now. Thank you for reflecting on doing more on upholding the principles of equal responsibilities and opportunities and exercising fair treatment of all human beings regardless of one's colour or looks.)

Hello! Nice to meet you. Kay is my middle name-variant that all my friends call me. I haven't been on CS that long on Couchsurfing (since Aug 2018), but I've hosted and surfed quite a bit now, and am looking forward to both surfing and hosting more, as well as hangout meetups at CS events. I have a west London flat where I can only host females as it is an all-women flat (trans women are welcome to stay in my girl-only flat), and there's an east London flat which is a mixed-gender flat for both women and men.

1. COMPLETE, 100% NON-SMOKERS ONLY (INCLUDING VAPERS).

In case you are a traveller or a host who is interested in contacting me, you can look away now if you are not 100% nonsmokers. (People who smoke electronic cigarettes and recreational drugs such as weeds --marijuana, cannabis etc.-- are counted in the same way as those who smoke traditional cigarettes.)

2. HERE ON CS BECAUSE...

I am not single or available for dates/fun, so please don't go there in writing and reaching out to me. (I will try not to judge you. If that's you, I wish you good luck with your purposes, reasons and endeavours in accomplishing what you are here on CS for and what you set out to achieve. Please don't involve me for those. Thank you.)

I am here on CS for completely genuine reasons. Please don't disrespect or involuntarily reasonslaughter and try ruining them. ('Involuntary reasonslaughter' = 'genuine reason'-equivalent of 'involuntary manslaughter' - or shall we say 'humanslaughter' in this day and age of equal opportunities and responsibilities.)

3. MY POSSIBLY HOSTING YOU.

Please take a look at my 'HOME' section before sending me a request to stay. My availability to host you in London UK is not great, but I may be able to host you for an odd night or two if there was a vacant room available. (It could be longer. I have hosted CS surfers for around a week.) The all-female flat has a living room with a 3-seater sofa that may be available for you if no bedroom was available. Usually I can only confirm whether I'd have the space to host someone or not a few days before the arrival fate or very last minute.

4. MY BACKGROUND / CHARACTERS.

I can smile a little with a sense of sadness and sorrowful abjectness in my purposely de-sentimentalised, robot-humanoid hybridisational existence.

What more about me. I am an incredibly solitary person, pretty literally. I am a lone female traveller and this would probably stay as it is for a long time to come, if not eternally when my frozen heart would no longer have pulse.

I am a lifelong nonsmoker and tea-total. I don't mind you drinking but I cannot live or stay with smokers (regardless of whether they smoke indoors or not) due to medicals. (Smoking includes not only traditional cigarettes but also electronic cigarettes and recreational drugs such as weeds.)

I am polite and respectful to other people's home as a visiting guest. I am not a partying type or cooking big meal everyday type by using the host's kitchen for hours on end daily, since I like to eat out when travelling abroad to experience the culinary culture of the countries that I am visiting, instead of eating the same old stuff that I've grown up with and eaten all my life at home.

(Please be prepared to be hot under the collar if you can digest the next bit, which is a sentence.)

I am a quiet type keeping to myself, though I can enjoy conversations with new people I meet from general or specialist arts, science and politics to in-depth socio-ethical analysis and debates, for example, from the harmlessness in the robotisation of humanity through transhumanistic cryonics or reproductive cloning and the beautifully equality-evoking benefits of 'appearance altering'-based cosmetic surgeries that combat the ugly human nature of favouring attractive-looking people that affects us on whether we get jobs, promotion and higher pay (and indeed Couchsurfing offers from hosts) and disfavouring non-attractive looking people that also affects us on how long a sentence we get in courts/prosecution as a defendant for a wrongdoing we commit, to why so many people would happily accept another parent's dead child's (or dead sibling's, parent's etc.) organs if their child/loved one needed an organ transplant to live, yet they don't sign their children/themselves up to the organ donation register as a donor, or, even worse, they overrule and object to their own dead loved one's organs being donated to save others when those loved ones of theirs had willingly signed up to organ donation while alive and in sound mind.

(Did you get that? That was one sentence. But it's nothing compared to my thesis that had numerous sentences three times that length.)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

For me, it is for 'experience' and 'sharing' why I am here on CS. Saving money (as a traveller when I travel) isn't really.

(Sometimes, staying with hosts in the suburbs a little bit away from the city centre means it costs money and time to get there from and to. It could cost me about the same compared to a dormitory budget hostel bed in central locations. So for me it isn't mainly about money at all.)

I am here to meet people in different countries, in different cultures and with different outlook, to see their local life, have a conversation and to share our experience and help each other, such as me as a traveller doing something to help you while travelling as per the above in return for your kind hospitality to host me at your home/establishment. Also I wish to give something back as a host to other travellers when I have been privileged in the past to come across genuine hosts with kind heart and who opened up their home to welcome me. So I wish to say; Thank you.
