About Me

Fully Vaccinated!!!!
Retired Business Owner.
Married 25 years, no kids but a couple really great dogs along the way. I joined the U.S. Army upon finishing high school. Years later, while studying Culinary Arts I met my wife Liz. I had a short career going in local government and politics when my wife and I changed everything up bought a restaurant. The years we worked next to each other all day were the best and most fortunate of my life. After a few successful years we sold our diner and traveled around Italy making awesome memories.
Eventually my wife started a new career while I decided to continue traveling.
So, for the next few years I am learning to travel solo while my wife finishes her career.
I've spent a lot of my life in the hospitality business, my biggest joy is breaking bread with someone new. Because I grew up poor I tend to be a generous person.

Bring together good food and good people....it is a simple two ingredient recipe that turns out interesting every time ...and that's all you really need.

More than anything I laugh, and laugh. I smile all the time because I know I am lucky to be in love with my wife and comfortable in life(sounds corny but it's perfectly true). I am held hostage by a brain that is constantly thinking of funny things. All day long I will make the people around me laugh. I'm told that I can be a bit chatty.
I'm goofy about buying and reselling on EBay, mostly vintage things.
Can I just stop and say beer is delicious..maybe not every beer..but sometimes...damn they are delicious!

To stay positive during the last few
months of lockdown I've organized several Dog Parades, Backyard Concerts and Chalk Art Projects to give my neighbors and I something to do. We've all grown closer and the sense of community is awesome.
Lately, I have been improving my Food Drive skills... pretty sure that I can be more effective in addressing local needs.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am traveling alone a lot these days, and it is very boring and lonely. My wife and I thought I should give CS a try.
We agree that the some of our best vacation memories are because of the people we meet along the way.
I hope to practice my Spanish and Italian.
It would be great to have a host or someone to check out interesting with. It's my treat if you've never been on a food tour, I'm addicted to them.

A traveler should learn to cook the local dishes from the local residents. I want to learn about and share the hidden gems with my host.

Interests

Cooking with others is what I live to do. You learn about a place from its food and eating customs.
Live music, day or night, should be mandatory.
Comedy Clubs
Estate Sales...Ebay. In that order!
I can almost play guitar, poorly, but I'm willing to learn more. My real secret is that I've never made music with another person, and it both frustrates and saddens me.
I love all kinds of Art, but I have never "made" any art. If there is a host out there that can teach me how to be creative I would be forever grateful.
Anything dealing with animals, guitars, history or science will fascinate me. Museums, Zoos, Concerts, Food Tours and Festivals....I love it all

I found that learning
the local language creates an explosion of opportunity that is otherwise missed. In Italy the first half of my tour was ok, but when as I learned Italian I had much more fun and met great friends. When I finally made it to college I studied Italian, Spanish and simplified Chinese.

Energy healing is something I am trying to understand and benefit from. I really think there might be something there for me but I have not found the right guide.

I could watch the stars or a bonfire and talk until the sun rises every day.

Music, Movies, and Books

Anything Vonnegut....Hi ho!
Jazz, Blues, Soul, 80s Metal
Live music of any kind at any time.
Staying awake through a movie is a challenge. Strange but true.
Science Fiction

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I was just 17 years old I joined the U.S. Army right after finishing High School, I served four years encountering things that will effect me forever.
It is still the best thing I ever did.
I met so many different people and for two and a half years I was stationed near Venice, Italy.
It says one thing but I have to mention that I owned a really awesome and highly rated diner ...that was almost as amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

Cooking both teaching and learning. Same with Italian and Spanish.
I pluck the guitar like a sad chicken
Laughs, laughs and more laughs.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Great, satisfying and open conversations filled with laughter.
If you have time to show me your town I'll appreciate it greatly. If you have time to tell me about yourself that's even better. I'll cook every meal, almost impulsively! My limited knowledge of Italian and Spanish.
Lots of laughs, eager friendship, genuine interest in you. Great cooking and conversation.
For some reason my friends all come to me for personal counseling on all matters. I guess I am a good listener, if you need to get something off your mind you can unload it on me. I don't mind and I'll make you feel better about yourself after.
Honestly, I'll share anything, I just want to be a better person and I think being open and sharing is the path to get there.

Take a chance and give this nearly old guy a place to stay and share your life, you won't regret it.
