About Me

Hi, I live on Maui (Hawaii) and am available for coffee or a drink with any
CSers visiting Maui. I have a couch potentially available to other
travelers. The house is in Kihei on the south side of Maui and is about 5
minutes distance to the beach and 10 minutes to shopping and
restaurants in Kihei. There is also a swimming pool and "very" friendly
dogs (2) on the premises. It is a wireless internet hotspot as well. Any
race or ethnicity is welcome as long as you are friendly and a good
guest. Any questions just email! Aloha.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Couchsurfing Experience
I lived in France and Germany for a year and have backpacked around
Europe. Almost every country except Greece. In Asia I traveled in Japan
and have visited Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong. For work I spent a lot
of time in South America especially Brazil and Mexico. Now I live on Maui
in Hawaii and would like to extend hospitality to other couchsurfers as I
enjoyed during my travels.

Interests

Running, swimming, working out. Love to travel and seeing the world.
Here in Hawaii I like going to the beach including a cool alternative
beach we have here on Maui, into foreign films and food, mai tais and
margaritas. If you smoke cigarettes that is OK if you smoke outside the
house. Other interests: theatre, swimming, ocean, sailing, law/legal
topics, books etc.

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Re books, I am a big reader, some of my favorites include "A Suitable Boy" by Vikram Seth -- kind of a "War and Peace" type novel about India in the 1950's covering a huge swath of political, social and other aspects of Indian society. Very accessible for non-indians. James Clavell - "Noble House" and "Tai Pan" about Hong Kong, as well as Shogun. Many of the books I end up liking are British novels, and/or take place abroad. Other favorite authors include: Ethan Mordden, John Grisham, Tom Clancy, John Le Carré, James Michener, John Fowles, PD James, J.P. Donleavy, Mary Renault, Alan Hollinghurst, Kingsley Amis, Eric Ambler, Graham Greene, George MacDonald Fraser, Larry McMurtry, Ken Follett, David Leavitt, J.K. Rowling (Harry Potter).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I spent a wild 3 weeks in Morocco having adventures and learning about
life. It will take a while to tell you about it so probably best in person.

Teach, Learn, Share

I run my own business in Hawaii so I guess my perspective on this is that
I can tell people about how I carved out a niche in this market in terms of
economic activity. I can also teach Spanish or German, French,
Portuguese, some Italian.

Couchsurfing started as being about international cultural exchange, people of different countries and cultures sharing hospitality. Today's Couchsurfing FAQ's tell us that "Couchsurfing is about sharing and connection" and I would encourage you to read the CS philosophy at https://support.couchsurfing.org/hc/en-us/articles/200717684-Tips-to-be-a-Great-Couchsurfer- and the "Related Articles" there. For people of some backgrounds it's hard to grasp, please take the time to explore this excellent FAQ.
