ABOUT ME

I have a small apartment for you to stay! I am incredibly new to the couchsurfing world, but I cannot wait to give it a try.

A little biography about myself: I studied Secondary Education-English in college, and was able to teach about 150 Dutch students last spring. It was a brilliant experience, and I was able to meet my girlfriend (Hildegunn) where I taught in Utrecht, Netherlands. Alas, we have fallen in love and are preparing to take the next step in life.

I am currently back in America teaching English, while she is in Norway teaching English as well. We do get to see each other during holidays, but we decided to treat ourselves to a backpacking trip this summer. As wonderful as SKYPE is, I cannot wait to see her : ) While I taught abroad, a friend recommended this site to me, and I finally joined. It is certainly fascinating! People have huge hearts, and it is very nice to see when the whole world seems to be in a downward spiral. Because I am so new, I absolutely apologize if I did not follow standard procedure! I will learn howeverâ

Although I spend the majority of my time teaching, I am always willing to assist the needs of others. Not only do I want to travel the world on my summer breaks, but I also want others to enjoy the beauty found in Pennsylvania.

Interests

My main interest is to make people laugh and smile. Life is too short, and too precious not to enjoy without a smile. I love helping people (one reason why I became a teacher). If you’re having a bad day, I’ll help you out anyway I can, by talking and making you smile. Oh yea, I also love to laugh, and I always seem to have a goofy smile on my face…always.

Music, Movies, and Books

MUSIC: Dave Matthews Band, Bob Marley, Greatful Dead, Phish, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, OAR, Ben Folds, Staind, Nine Inch Nails, Metallica, Filter, and Foo Fighters.

MOVIES:Star Wars and Chewbacca gave meaning to my life…The Island, The Rock, Transformers (Michael Bay is probably my favorite director of all time…he just blows everything up, which is fine by me), Lord of the Rings (the complete trilogy is rather epic), the X-Men trilogy, Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, and all Disney movies (Aladdin, The Lion King, and Toy Story are my favorites). I have started to watch more of the “classic” movies. It’s a Wonderful Life had me in tears, The Shawshank Redemption has provided me vital quotes for my research papers, and The Princess Bride has inspired me to be a loving grandfather. Inception made me think, causing my head to swell and almost explode, which is a very fine thing.

BOOKS: Majoring in Secondary Education, English has caused me to expand my reading horizon. Of Mice and Men, Fahrenheit 451, and How to Kill a Mockingbird were some of my favorite books in high school. The Canterbury Tales, Beowulf, Interpreter of Maladies, The Intuitionist, The Faerie Queene, and On the Road are some of my favorite college texts.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

-I have traveled all over the Caribbean.

-I have taught students in the Netherlands.

-Volcanic eruptions in Iceland caused me to travel from Norway-Amsterdam in 30 hours of nonstop public transportation.
