I conducted academic research on gender discrimination, and I once participated in a fundraiser for a women's shelter by acting in the Vagina Monologues. I'm also passionate about other progressive causes.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'd like to see the places I'm visiting from a local's perspective. I want to see beyond the architecture, understanding the human element of the culture.
I also just want to meet new, different people with views I've never encountered and ideas I've never considered.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite movie is Her. A couple other movies that come to mind are The Fifth Element, Aliens, Mr. Nobody, Wild Wild West, Hard Candy, Sucker Punch, Green Mile, Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil, Fight Club, Funny Games, KiKi's Delivery Service, Starship Troopers... Genres that I reliably enjoy are animated movies and sci-fi.

I don't really have favorite books or music! I like to read, but I tend to go for articles, blogs, or educational materials. A couple fiction books I remember enjoying were Dune, The Martian, Flowers for Algernon, and Lolita. But I would also recommend Spinoza's Ethics, and possibly The Dharampada.

As for music, I'm a big fan of St. Vincent, she's the best of both worlds, powerful vocals an ethereal quality. I also really like Purity Ring. I tend to like electronic, and I listen to a lot of lofi while I'm working. There's not a lot of music I don't like, especially if it's pushing the genre boundary. To be honest I still have a soft spot for pop-punk

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once went scuba diving and saw a huge sea turtle. I swam over to it and slid my hand against it's shell. As I put my other hand on the shell's edge, she began swimming, taking me along with her.
