About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to enjoy life without many time restrictions

ABOUT ME

I was an army brat, so I do not have a hometown in the conventional sense, but grew up in four states and France. My husband and I also moved frequently when we were first married, then went to Western Kentucky and West Tennessee, where I have remained for about 35 years. I am a widow, a retired teacher, and a duplicate bridge player. I love to travel, and I like having visitors.

PHILOSOPHY

Enjoy life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have both surfed and hosted couchsurfers. I am amazed at the great people I have met through the couchsurfing organization. For example, someone who could not host me found me another place to stay with her friend. In couchsurfing places, I have seen sights and met people I would never have met on my own.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

In addition to couchsurfing, I belong to 5W, a women's organization which has gained me many friends worldwide. I stayed with eight different families during a visit to Japan, and have also stayed with members in the Netherlands, England, Scotland, Switzerland, Tennessee, Indiana, Ontario, and Michigan. Sometimes I had a bed or a couch, but somtimes only the floor. Each of these experiences has been enjoyable, especially getting to know something more than a "tourists' view" of a country. Since joining couchsurfing, I have been visited by a lovely French member, and have visited her. I stayed at a member's place on the Ile d'Oleron. I stayed for two weeks with a member from Madrid, and I am amazed at her friendly reception and generosity. Tthe next year, she and her friend stayed with me for 17 days. We enjoyed sightseeing and sharing ideas and cooking lessons in my kitchen. In France in 2013 I stayed with the friend of a couchsurfer, and was taken on a sightseeing trip with another one of her friends.

Music, Movies, and Books

I read constantly. I love mysteries, especially those set in foreign countries. My favorite authors include Ken Follett, P.D. James, Dick Francis, Maeve Binchy, Graham Greene, Joseph Conrad. I listen to classical music. I like the BBC mysteries.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In 1959 I saw DeGalle and Eisenhower lay a wreath on the tomb of the unknown soldier under the Arc de Triomphe. My son, when just born, was amazing. My husband, smiling, was very nice to look at. The generous nature of couchsurfing hosts is truly amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I was a Spanish teacher, but I would rather just visit with people, not give lessons to them.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I would love to take a host out to eat at a place recommended by him or her.
