Sobre mí

Activist and social change maker, real/slow food enthusiast, aspiring femivore. I'm a mid-morning person, I don't depend on coffee, math is a weakness of mine, and I always have to wear matching socks. I like to carry a portable radio around my house so I can listen to NPR during my morning routine. I'm generally a very happy person, though with a serious default face ;) You could say I'm a thorough perfectionist and work-a-holic, though I'm working on going with the flow more. I've also been told that I am very open, honest, and frank and enjoying meeting people who are willing to talk about anything!

PHILOSOPHY

Work hard, keep an open mind, and travel/experience other places (if you can), as it will profoundly change the way you view yourself and your own culture.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
-Mark Twain

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.
-Margaret Mead

"Chase your dreams with a passion that makes it impossible for your fears to catch up."

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

I started Couchsurfing both unofficially and officially during my post-grad round-the-world year. As a Thomas J. Watson Fellow, I was studying sustainable agriculture and food systems, which led me to some extraordinary individuals in Tanzania, India, Bhutan, Bolivia, the Netherlands, Germany and Iceland. Discovering CS was life changing in a really positive way. I look forward to being able to host surfers in the future (as soon as I have a place to call my own).

If you had twelve months, $28,000, and the ability to travel anywhere in pursuit of anything, what would you do? Where would you go? What are your wildest dreams and deepest passions? What makes you tick and lights your heart on fire?

Music: pretty eclectic! I enjoy listening to everything from indie pop to classical to jazz, ska, pop 40, bluegrass, classical Indian, folk rock or swing.

Books: Khaled Hosseini books (The Kite Runner, A Thousand Splendid Suns and the Mountains Echoed), I grew up reading Harry Potter and Nicholas Sparks, Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child books are my favorite suspense/mystery, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series, The Power of Now, Catcher in the Rye, The Secret Life of Bees, The Joy Luck Club, Water for Elephants...though I would like to read more in my spare time.

On my "to read" list: In Defense of Food and the Omnivore’s Dilemma by Michael Pollan, The Unsettling of America by Wendell Berry, Small is Beautiful by Schumachaer, Fair Shares: Ethics and the Global economy by Timothy Gorringe, The Rise and Fall of Economic Liberalism by Frederic Clairmont, Why Poor People Stay Poor by Michael Lipton, How to Believe in Nothing And Set Yourself Free by Michael Misita, The Singular Pilgrim: Travels on Sacred Ground by Rosemary Mahoney, Meanwhile Next Door to the Good Life (about homesteading) by Jean Hay Bright, Hope's Edge: The Next Diet for a Small Planet by Francis Moore Lappe and Anna Lappe, Hot Flat and Crowded by Thomas Friedman

Algo increíble que he hecho

Although I missed the Dalai Lama in Ladakh, India by only one day, I was able to receive a Buddhist teaching from the guru himself in Rotterdam, the Netherlands nine months later!

Enseña, aprende, comparte

One day, I want to become a certified yoga teacher. I also have limited experience tutoring English at a refugee center! Otherwise, I'm down to learn anything and think that skill-share is a wonderful way to get to know people. I'd love to gain more experience in pottery, non-digital photography, upcycling, documentary film making, more cooking and baking from scratch, building things from local materials, knitting/crocheting, a running buddy to train for a half marathon, bee and backyard chicken keeping, doing hair wraps, making jewelry, Hindi, foreign languages in general, french braiding, food preservation/other homesteading activities and anything else you can teach me :)

Qué puedo ofrecer a los anfitriones

I can cook for you (probably by experimenting with a new recipe), share titles from my growing book collection, lead a yoga class, join you on adventures, and generally be a positive presence!
