About Me

Now living in Bialowieza, Podlasie, Poland with my partner and our son. I am a PhD student.

Important: I can rarely host, and my CS subscription might be inactive for long times, therefore I recommend you send me a request via email to lmaugeri[at]ibs.bialowieza.pl, including a link to your CS profile. Also, if you're sending a request, please be precise about how many people you are travelling with, and take the time to elaborate a bit - I will ignore curt, impersonal messages, unless it's an emergency request.

I consider myself a citizen of the world, even if my travelling experience is not too broad; I am not comfortable with many aspects of the society I'm living in and, unfortunately, I still don't have any good solution get rid of them...but I'm working on it!

Some inspiring sayings:

"Mountains divide waters and link people" (Occitan Proverb)

"If God had wanted us to build fiberglass boats, He would have made fiberglass trees"

"To breath in and out at the same moment, it's not possible" (Ligurian Proverb)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Friends of mine have told me what a great network of amazing people it is, so I decided to join. It meets my ideal of living community where people cooperate in a natural and genuine way...it is a smart and lively concept of travelling, definitely more personal and meaningful than jumping from one hotel to another.

Interests

I like languages, w.w.o.o.fing, hiking, sailing, organic farming, ecology, history, especially military history, military scale modelling, good books and good food. In the past I practiced kendo for a short time.
I am not really fluent in any language other than English, but I used to speak German, now I use Polish every day, and I can hazard conversations in French (sound basics, but awfully rusty).
I have a thing for mountains and sea, I think they're two sides of the same coin.
Listening to music, explore creativity; learning languages and all about language.
I like cooking, baking bread and biscuits, and making food experiments.
Self-sufficiency and community are two concepts that inspire me and I am keen on learning about.

Music, Movies, and Books

Irish-scottish folk, celtic music, classical music, american folk, italians singers-songwriter such as De André and Guccini, epic music from movies, choir chants or weird ethnic music from the world....it really depends on my mood.
Movies: especially historical, introspective, socially "committed" ones, docu-films...
Books: uff, so many! Novels, the sea novels by Patrick O'Brian above all; fantasy books; anthropology, history, voyage books....

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Snowtracking wolf packs in mid-winter in the Polish Bieszczady mountains

Teach, Learn, Share

There's definitely more stuff I'd like to learn about than stuff I could teach!
I'd be pleased to share what I know, and to discuss the different points of view with other people.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I cook and bake quite well! I like to talk about history, languages, nature, and listen to people's stories
