About Me

Hi! I'm Marc. I'm living in Manresa, not Barcelona city! I'm 1h from Barcelona!

I try to be happy. I know there are people who risk their lives to get half of what I have. Knowledge of bad things in the world makes me aware of the importance of good things (a friend, a smile, a hug ...). No one will take us away the right to be happy.

I grew up in my small city. At age 25 I started travelling a little bit (mostly around Spain). I lived three years in the Canary Islands and a few months in Milán (Italy). Now I'm living in Manresa again.

I think I'm a quiet person. But I like to do a lot of different things. I like music (listening and playing), arts, ecology; I like to practice sports (hiking, cycling, swimming).

In a green energy cooperative: https://www.somenergia.coop/

Now working for the next birth of: https://supercoopmanresa.cat/

Also involved in the route of the maquis:

And I have my money in an ethical bank.

I like learning more than knowing. I mean, I like to enjoy the way, the process. When I arrive, I just want to learn another thing.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I started in CS to travel all around. Now I am discovering that hosting people is a great way to travel without having to move home.

Traveling and meeting different people can be an antidote to racism and fascism. At the point where Europe is now this is something very important for me.

I believe in the non-monetary economy. I would like my needs to be met in part by exchanges and cooperation that will not enter the capitalist market.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I like indie music like Wilco, Surfjan Stevens or Grizzly Bear. I also like a kind of minimalism new classical and experimental music, from Eric Satie to Fennesz, including Olafur Arnalds or Pascal Comelade. I love so much all that 50's and 60's jazz like Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck, Chet Baker, .... and some old Cuban music like Benny Moré or Trio Matamoros.

Movies: I like classic cinema (Orson Welles, Hitchkock) but at this moment I'm enjoying a lot the slow cinema of people like Ingmar Bergman, Aki Kaurismaki or Victor Erice.

Books: Now I'm reading a lot of European novels of XX century and late XIX (Thomas Mann, Stefan Swieg, Tostoi,...) I like some Spanish and Latin American writers (Garcia Marquez, Cortázar, Delibes, ). Sometimes I like to read some poetry (mostly Catalan) and nonfiction (history, politics,...)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I prefer collective acts than individuals. I was on October 1, 2017 sleeping in schools for the right to vote in the referendum in Catalunya. I have no doubt that it was the most incredible collective action I have ever participated. I will remember it all my life.

Teach, Learn, Share

I often think I have more to learn than to teach. But I can certainly teach you everything I know (teaching is also a way to learn).

I know a little bit about playing guitar and bass and singing. I can show you my city (Manresa) and the surroundings (Montserrat, the Pyrenees ...) With some days I can show you with pleasure other places of Catalunya. I really like to learning and teaching languages. I can teach you Spanish and Catalan. I speak a little English and Italian and I'm always happy to speak and improve.

In the past I worked as an electrician and plumber. That was long ago but surely I can help you in small repairs of your house.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can offer you everything in my house. I have a private room for guests with a sofa bed. It is a large apartment of 80 mts with a large terrace in a quiet area. I usually work in the mornings, so I have my afternoons for you (and weekends).
