Sobre mí

CURRENT MISSION

to find my mission

ABOUT ME

although i am still finding out about who i am,
i know that poetry, cycling, concern for environment, "cooking upstream", and spending time with friends are key elements in my life.

nowadays i almost always travel by bicycle.
i like the slow speed and intimate interaction with people and places that cycling forces on me.
but this came about largely by accident. 30 years ago i came to Asia for the first time, went to Thailand, but saw little more than Kaosan Rd and Ko Samui, and thought "WTF! I'm seeing nothing of Thai/Asian culture".
so the next year i put my old bike on the plane, and cycled from Bangkok to Singapore.
and the next year from San Francisco to Vancouver.
and then around Taiwan, France, Australia...
... and later from Chennai to Mumbai ... and Mumbai to Ladakh ...
with about 20 countries in between.

i cannot recommend it too highly, and it came into my life (like so many things) by chance.

PHILOSOPHY

i leave philosophy to my dog
go ask him

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

originally hosting and travelling, now sadly neither, but keen to show travellers around the places i live (currently Taiwan)

some very nice travel experiences (India, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, S.Korea),
and no bad ones

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Many years ago, I hitch-hiked across Europe and while passing from Germany into Austria the French guy's truck I was in broke down. It was late on a Sunday evening, and we couldn't find a restaurant or shop open, never mind a garage for repairs. An old man walking his dog invited us to his house, fed us, let us shower and stay the night - all without our asking (neither of us could speak German). He just saw our need and felt like sharing.
The memory has stayed with me.
