Overview
About Me
World hitch hiker, during the 1970s.
I've visited all 50 states and probably 30 countries. I've taught courses in Romania, Argentina, Holland, Brunei, Qatar, and Panama.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm embarking on a six month driving tour of the US on February 12, 2024. My goal is to conduct research (photos, interviews, archives) for the book manuscript "America's Libraries: Finding the Women Who Made Them." I'll primarily be visiting Carnegie libraries in the lower 48 (except for Nevada and West Virginia). I'll mainly be sleeping in my Subaru Outback, but would love to also couchsurf along the way.

Music, Movies, and Books
I'm now reading books involving women's travel adventures: Tales of a Female Nomad; Beneath the Smiling Moustache; Wild; West With the Night; Eat, Pray, Love. Most recent movies include Boys in the Boat, Ferrari, Killers of the Flower Moon, Oppenheimer, and Barbie. Glad to share my Spotify playlists! (I'm a Spin Cycle instructor). Favorite musicians include Japanese Teahouse, Sleater Kinney, New Pornographers, Stromae, and many more....
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Set a world record for tennis marathons (48 straight hours of doubles).
Teach, Learn, Share
I have taught American politics and public policy for three decades, but my favorite classes were on data visualization and ethics.
