ABOUT ME

I am a retired high school/college teacher and love to travel. I have three grown children who live all over the world, so they give me that opportunity! I love the concept of couch surfing because it allows people to travel who would not be able to otherwise. Plus we get to meet all kinds of interesting people by being hosts!

PHILOSOPHY

The way to world peace is through understanding. I don't like using the word "tolerance" because it sounds like we are suggesting we "put up with" people. Instead I suggest we say "acceptance" of others which is a different concept.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Although I have only stayed with a host once in D.C. while traveling there, I have hosted many people over the years I've been on this site. I like to help students who are here for interviews or to relocate to Arizona colleges like the nearby Midwestern University, which is a medical school, and the Thunderbird Graduate School of Global Management, both of which are close to us. Arizona's hotel costs in the winter can be prohibitive to students on a budget, so I try to help out in that area. I attended NYC's weekly Couchsurfing gathering one summer and it was great to see young people all over the world mingling and learning about each others' cultures.

I have traveled quite a bit but normally have stayed in hotels or pensions in Europe.

I go to movies a lot, enjoy almost all kinds of music, especially live, and read biographies, fiction, etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've skied alone on a mountain top in Austria where all the signs were in German and each trail lead to a different village and sometimes country! With my sense of direction, it's amazing I ever found my way back to my group.

Teach, Learn, Share

I do continue to substitute teach on occasion just to remember how it was to work with teenagers. It can be challenging, but I almost always enjoy the experience.
