About Me

CURRENT MISSION

On the road working to save for another trip abroad. Currently in Melbourne, VIC, Australia.

ABOUT ME

I'm from Sydney, Australia. Over the past few years I've lived in the UK and just moved to Melbourne from a summer on the Bellarine Peninsula and Great Ocean Road in Victoria, Australia. Travelling is my passion and although I haven't been everywhere, I've been so lucky to experience some amazing things off the beaten track, and made incredible friends in Europe, North and South America and Asia.
I love the outdoors, eating fresh food and seeing how the locals do it. I think the best way to see and feel a country is by foot, I'm a wannabe leather tramp.

PHILOSOPHY

Eat where the locals eat, drink what the locals drink and dance how the locals dance...
Except that sour milk drink in Slovakia, that is terrible. Kopstootje, more specifically jenever, I don't care for that either.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I want to meet new friends to explore with whilst down in Victoria. I want to find time to give back to the travelling community the way people have been so kind and open to me all around the world.
I don't rely on CouchSurfing when I'm travelling, but use it when the time is right. I think it's great meeting and staying with locals, but it can be limiting if you are bound to the hours a host may be working, or the location of the "Couch," as most people who are hosting aren't living in the city centre or touristic areas. So I try to combine CouchSurfing with hosteling and camping, and find it all makes for a great experience. No one is the same and everyone travels in a different way. It's always great getting new tips from hosts, surfers and meeting other travellers.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Surfed a few times, hosted a few people this summer and last, and met a few CSers for music, food, kayaking and hiking. Appreciate all the travel advice from locals in discussions. Thanks!

Music, Movies, and Books

Nothing beats seeing live music. I love how wherever you are in the world, music is something that entertains. So much good music out there. Grew up listening to punk and rock, but listen more to indie, electronic, hip hop and roots now. And like every other traveler reggae/reggaeton and Hendrix are always on the playlist.

I'm not a great reader sadly, but am currently reading two books: Reconciliation - Benazir Bhutto's final words on Islam, Democracy & the West, and The Great Gatsby though finding this one painful to read. I mostly find myself reading biographies and historical accounts though want to read more classics.
Last books I read:
- To Kill A Mockingbird
- Long Walk to Freedom
- First They Killed My Father
- The 1000 Hour Day

Best movie in a while was The Departed. Martin Scorcese, Christopher Nolan and Quentin Tarantino flicks tend to peak my interest. Also love 90s comedies like Cool Runnings. Classic!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

- Swimming with whale sharks off Isla Mujeres, Mexico...wow! (which was followed by a meal of ceviche made by the fat man. ¡Que rrrrriiiicccooooo!).
- Snorkelling between the North American and European tectonic plates in a glacial lake at Silfra Fissure, Thingvellir National Park in Iceland, in the middle of winter.
- Hiking in Norway
- Hiking 865km across northern Spain along the Camino de Santiago
- Living on the beach in the Kalalau Valley, Kaua'i, Hawai'i
- Hiked 100km from Apollo Bay to the Twelve Apostles along the Great Ocean Walk, Victoria, Australia

Teach, Learn, Share

Look after your pets. Feed them right, exercise them, love them, keep them free from pain, illness, fear and suffering!

Recipe for Impossible Pie:
All the ingredients are mixed together and poured into a pie tin, but when it cooks it forms its own crust with filling (Gasp! Impossible!).
Ingredients:
4 eggs
½ cup melted butter
½ cup plain flour
1 cup sugar
1 cup coconut
2 cups milk
2 teaspoons vanilla essence
Method:
- Blend all ingredients and pour mixture into a greased pie tin.
- Bake in the oven at 170°C for 1 hour or until firm.

Easy peasy lemon squeezy! Enjoy!
