I know some of you are new to couch surfing too - great! Welcome - we all had to start somewhere. However, again, I suggest that you ask a fellow couch surfing friend or anyone you know on this site to write you at least 1 reference. My final piece of advice to those seeking my couch: it's a jungle out there! I get many, many requests a day so you can appreciate that I am looking for a person that stands out a little, that has put some effort into their request by reading my profile and showing why and how they want to meet me and what they believe they can contribute during their stay.

ABOUT ME

G'day! I am a friendly, outgoing & bubbly Aussie girl that caught the travel bug & as a result quit my corporate accountancy job in March 2014 and embarked on a worldwide travelling adventure where I was fortunate to visit 30 countries across 3 continents over a period of approx 18 months. So you could say that I got quite addicted there for a while! Travel is definitely my weakness. Travel is also the reason I now call Copenhagen, Denmark home. While backpacking through the country, I snagged an Icelandic man whom I now call my husband! Life can be pretty amazing.

I grew up a long way from the rest of the world - on a remote sheep & cattle property in the Australian outback, 1200 kilometres from Brisbane & whist I spent my childhood exploring my "own backyard" I now feel at home wherever I go in the world & have a hunger to continue to navigate this beautiful Earth & learn as much as I can about other people, cultures and their environments.

I consider myself an extrovert as I have always loved people & draw my energy from making new friends & sharing stories with others. I want to enjoy every moment of every day rather than be distracted by worrying about the future.
I am looking forward to sharing the rest with you over a wine or meal together.

PHILOSOPHY

Life is very short - keep growing every day but don't take it too seriously. Also, a good life is a life lived for others - treat everyone as you would like to be treated without fail.

Por que estou no Couchsurfing?

A hostel, hotel or guest house cannot be compared to what couch surfing can offer - I no longer remember the places I have been by the "things" I saw but instead by the people I met! Those are the real experiences.

My younger brother introduced me to couch surfing in 2014, prior to my recent extended travels. He raved about all the amazing people he met through this experience and I knew I had to check it out. I hosted a French girl prior to leaving Australia & was hooked! My faith in humanity is at an all time high because of this wonderful community, which I have embraced over the past year or so of travelling. Other travellers I have met say that couch surfing is "hit & miss" but this has never been my experience. Rather, I am continually amazed at how welcoming & compassionate people are & how a travel experience can be transformed beyond anything a Lonely Planet guidebook can ever hope to achieve.

I believe that in order to truly experience a new town or city it is paramount to connect with its people & their stories. It is only by being with the people & sharing their local experiences that travel is enriched. People & travelling are the things I enjoy most about life, so what better way to combine them, than to couchsurf?!

Interesses

As a little girl, I often went camping & bush walking with my family all over Australia. I enjoy being outside and at one with nature. I have found that cities can be beautiful, but I prefer them to be small! I guess I will always remain a small-town girl...So, in my travels I have trekked, hiked and climbed many mountains - from the Carpathians in Romania to the Dolomites in Northern Italy. I love to rough it & sleep under the stars when camping - it is one of the best feelings ever. I enjoy playing sport & being active where possible although I'm no gym junkie! I play tennis & squash, swim & enjoy yoga & biking. Running is not something I'm great at, but I try to do it when motivated! I also love history & thinking about the "bigger picture"...I guess you could say I'm a deep thinker. I like to debate & discuss the things that most people don't want to talk about, but I find these discussions uncover the most about a person! Although I'm no Masterchef, I adore yummy food & good wines (plural for a reason!)

I need to read more - tips for a good read are always very welcome! I also am trying (trying being the key word here!) to write my own book about my recent travel shenanigans. Perhaps you can also inspire me here & massage my writers block out of its hibernation!

I always say I was born in the wrong era, hence my appreciation for a range of old rock, country, blues & roots & some popular stuff! Not a music snob at all...

Love a good comedy or drama. Not a scary movie fan though. Never understood why people go to the movies to get terrified?!

I've been told that it's rare & brave for someone to travel for such a long time as I have done, but I don't consider it to be that outlandish at all. During this time however, I have compiled a few good things to add to this "list" (I hate lists by the way...). I have volunteered on an Estonian sheep farm, participated in an English language immersion program for Polish professionals, hitchhiked in Norway, chartered a boat from Amalfi to Capri in Italy, hiked the Cinque Terre & the Path of the Gods, watched the Big 5 animals at play in South Africa & Swaziland, climbed Lions Head in Cape Town, camped on a beach in Mozambique, trekked Machu Picchu, paraglided over active volcanoes in Ecuador, flew over the Nazca Lines, Peru in a 4-seater plane, white water rafted & hiked in the Austrian Alps, hiked surrounded by the awe-inspiring Dolomites in Italy, cruised the Nile in Egypt, ate at a Syrian restaurant with a couch surfing host in Morocco, stood in awe at the temples & pyramids of Giza, watched breathtakingly big waterfalls and pondered life while icebergs slid past me at a glacial lake in Iceland. Each and every day is a gift, not just when you're doing "amazing" things.

Also ask me about my appearance on an Australian reality TV show! Lots of fun & something you don't get to do every day!

I started learning Danish in September 2015 so I really hope I can practice my Danish with you - it definitely needs all the help it can get. I also want to learn to dance the salsa & other dances. I love to have fun dancing in all genres!

I can share my experiences of growing up in outback Australia with you which includes cooking a delicious lamb roast dinner - my speciality! However recently I have met a lot of vegetarian hosts and I am interested to learn more about this lifestyle.

Also, when I couch surf I like to contribute to the home where I am staying by cooking a delicious meal for my host/s. I always find that food brings people together and it is a great way to say thank you (if you read between these lines, I also usually expect my surfers to offer to cook or contribute some ingredients to a meal).
