About Me

Hey there !

We are Quentin and Mariette, a french couple of photographers from Brittany, but we actually live in Normandy. Oh, and people are used to call us M. and Mme Shoes :)

We love travelling to discover other countries, landscapes and cultures, and love to spend time with locals to see the way they live.
We have a taste for unknown, remote, hard to access, or forgotten places, with its cultures and folks. If its not in a guide book, we'll go there ! Most of time we travel by hitchicking, or simply walking. But sometimes we love to take a slow train ;)

Photography is a major part of our life and we can't go somewhere without a camera. Bringing back pictures and telling the world what we've witness is the purpose of our life, work and travels !

You can have a look at our travels and photography works on our web site : www.shoesyourpath.com

Amongst our travels experiences :
- 46000km of 4WD in Australia outback
- 3 month hitchhicking trip across Australian desert
- Opening a company in New-Zealand and make the whole tour of the south island hitchhicking and hiking
- 8 month for 5000km, across Asia following the Mekong river and walking 2500km on its banks
- 1 month in Iran
- Walking from home to London through Normandy and south England countryside
- Walking 200km on the summit of the Balkans

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We like to use couchsurfing when we travel, we think it's a very good way to meet some local people, customs and traditions. We've been hosted during our travels, it's been a precious help and made us meet amazing people. So when we are back in France between two travels, it's time for us to give all that good vibes back, and host travellers.

We've hosted quite a lot of people when we were living in Paris, surfed a little bit also during our travels. But for now, these days we’re quite busy working on our projects, so we’re not necessarily always available to host people.
So please, request us as far in advance on your arrival date as possible so we can plan it as much as possible.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Can we talk about the two most amazing things we've done ?

During 8 months we've been walking along the Mekong river. We started at its holy source in an unexplored himalayan steppe 5000m high and we walked more than 2500km downstream to the mouth of the river in the Mekong Delta. All along the way we met the people who are living by the river off the touristic places and we bring back an huge collection of stories and portraits. Back in France we edited a book and toured all around the country with a photo exhibition and a conference to share a the reality of the everyday life of these people, and witness how they adapt the global warming and economical changes in Asia.
This is the most amazing thing we've done so far. But we hope to do better and crazier ;)

The one year trip in Australia we did in a 4WD ! It's been 46 000km all around the big island in deserts and tracks. Just crazy ! It was so fun that we came back 2 years later to cross the country by the desert by hitchhiking !

Teach, Learn, Share

We love share our food passion ! We like to learn some new recipes and teach our favorites. But we also love to share our travels experiences, and talk about the different cultures we've seen.
We can also teach you how to use a camera !

What I Can Share with Hosts

Curious and open minded we like to listen for stories and experiences, and always ready to learn something new ! We'd love to get a better view and understanding of the way local people live, to hang out with you, hear your stories and to see your city/country through your eyes...
