I'm a journalist who's lived in Hawai'i for nearly two years, a place I moved to connect with my culture and my Hawaiian Chinese father's side of the family. I'm delighted to say I feel like I've made significant progress here: I take hula, Hawaiian language classes, and volunteer weekly at a farm where we cultivate traditional Hawaiian crops like kalo (taro) and ulu (breadfruit).

I ask a lot of questions, make friends with everybody, have strong opinions about sports, and ride my bike most places. I grew up in California, went to school in Pennsylvania, moved to New York City for two years, and Chicago for six. I don't own a car, take circus and French classes, and host a lot of dinner parties.

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing

The past couple years our country has *felt* like a dark place. Couchsurfing reminds me that this is actually not the case and that the world and our country are filled with decent, kind, thoughtful, and hospitable humans.

Stayed with some fantastic people in Shanghai for a couple of days while attending the World Expo (which was a grand explosion of art + sustainability + culture) and then stayed with the BEST people ever in Madrid.

Then, when I traversed across the country, I stayed with a couple of people in Louisville and Kansas City (surprise! Mumford and Sons was there!)

My little sister and I had the best and most memorable time spontaneously roadtripping and couch surfing in Toronto.

Deeply connected with my couch surfing host in France.

Was welcomed in the middle of the pandemic with a lovely couple just outside of Glacier National Park.

Houses - A Quiet Darkness album (basically a lullaby)
San Francisco Giants baseball games on the radio (web radio that is)

They need to add podcasts to this list! I host my own podcast for work and am also a huge podcast junkie.

-Lived next door to the Sagrada Familia for four months
-Pulled all-nighters in Barcelona all of October to watch the Giants win the World Series back in San Francisco
-Gave up the mall for an entire year
-Lived in New York City and walked around Lower Manhattan when the power was out. Most amazing site ever.
-Made friends with folks I've met through Twitter, met in the airplane line, comforted on a subway, at a library lecture, and through a mutual creeper.

Enseignez, apprenez, partagez

My most typical feedback from people is usually along the lines of "wow, I've never had a conversation like that with anyone before but I really enjoyed it."

I can make you think critically about your life and I'm an honest, confrontational person. Thank goodness, I love you.

Also, I do know Spanish and I'm learning French and would love some help trying out that.
