About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I have spent the last two months volunteering in Leyte, Philippines. We have been building a school building as the community still had no well functioning classroom since the big typhoon which hit the country 10 years ago.

ABOUT ME

I'm pretty tall at 6'7, but saying that i can also fold away like a camping table to fit into necessary spaces. (backs of cars, small houses etc).

I'm a very easy going kind of guy. I love meeting new people, hearing their stories and learning from them.

I'm very passionate about travel and understanding new cultures. I love getting out there and exploring new places and capturing everything i experience through my camera lens.

PHILOSOPHY

Pay it forward. I have sat a number of Vipassana meditation courses and enjoy meditating regularly.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I joined couchsurfing to see a side of traveling that not a lot of people see; it's almost like the 'behind the scenes'.

Rather than staying in hostels and hotels, where you may only get a tourists view of a place, instead I love to meet local people and share stories and adventures with them to really get a feel for where they live.

Interests

Exploring new places and meeting new people as I go.

I love that last minute rush of finding a place to stay and then having an amazing new experience with people that you have just met.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Travelled to South Africa in 2008 to do a month of community work. This was an amazing experience. I met so many people and have a lot of great memories.

Managed to get a free holiday to Mexico on a medical trial in 2010. Went with 6 friends and had a very fun time.

I traveled around the planet from 2011 - 2013. Started in India, I traveled all through south east Asia and Japan, then lived in Australia for a year before continuing onto New Zealand, Hawaii, then mainland US and Canada.

Road tripped across the US from Washington state to West Virginia over 3 days.

Volunteered in Nepal for 5 months with a charity organization which focuses on rebuilding after natural disasters.

Volunteered for 7.5 months in Ecuador with the same organization following the earthquake in May 2016.

Travelled South America (Colombia, Peru, Bolivia) for 5 months with my girlfriend in 2017.

Worked for All Hands and Hearts volunteers following the hurricanes in the Caribbean. Lived in the BVI for 8 months.

Spent 2 months traveling Indonesia, Vietnam and Philippines in 2018.

Moved to Vancouver in Jan 2019 until 2020, then travelled to Mexico for a month.

Then the ‘big C’ hit and I headed home to the UK for 2 years.

Last autumn i left the UK again to volunteer in the Philippines. We build 10 temporary classrooms for 6 schools in the southern Leyte area. Following this project I traveled in Indonesia for a few weeks then headed back to the UK to earn some more money.

I returned to the Philippines in October to start working on a new school building project which is where I have spent the last 2 months before heading to Hong Kong.

I have just completed sitting a Vipassana 10 day meditation course in Lantau, Hong Kong.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to learn from people. I studied media at university, so I really enjoy documenting places and events. Maybe I can pass on some of this knowledge.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A whole load of travel stories from around the globe, like the time I was an extra in a Bollywood in Bombay or when I jump off the worlds highest gorge swing in South Africa and everything in between!
