About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To expand my sense of home to appreciate a larger world.

ABOUT ME

Hospitality to travellers is an important spiritual practice for me, so I hope I have and am developing skills of welcoming others and being someone with whom people can be themselves.

I am a priest in The Episcopal Church, and quite open minded -- meaning, I can appreciate people coming from a variety of different perspectives and beliefs, and folks who have beliefs about whether or not to have beliefs. Our differences add beauty to the world. Happy to have good conversations about just about any topic. I'd be happy to show you the town, and respect your personal space and need for "down time".

Oh, and I happen to be openly and comfortably gay. Would imagine and hope anyone hosting me or staying with me would be cool with that.

PHILOSOPHY
In this tiny box?
Mutual respect and loving-kindness.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I like to host and surf, because I believe that our hearts and lives are expanded when (perhaps only real if) we meet and come to know a wide variety of people from all over the world. That may be one the few ways we truly come to know ourselves. Right now, I'm not hosting much because of my current roommate situation, but I hope to begin hosting again soon.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Have hosted some folks. I'd love to host more, but my current living situation doesn't accommodate that.

Interests

Developing those: enjoy hiking, and try to take a dip in the ocean at least a couple of times a week. Also happy to go out dancing, or discuss a good book. Enjoy 'foreign' films, including foreign language films. Art museums are great, and good food is better when shared.

Music, Movies, and Books

All over the board. I'll write more here later. My favorite movie and book is the Color Purple (music ain't too bad either). I also love Priscilla Queen fo the Desert (a good pilgrimage flick.

Music really is all over the board .... love women's voices, particularly those inspired by folk and jazz. Nina Simone is a favorite, along with Sister Rosetta Tharpe.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Swimming with honu (sea turtles). Went to a tiny library in Herrnhut, Germany, and held in my bare-hands a letter written by John Wesley, founder of the Methodists. I was doing research on him at the time, and that was pretty cool, and a rare privilege. Walked the Camino de Santiago de Compostela; watched the sun set and rise over Mt. Fuji, and watched the sun set and rise from Mt. Fuji.

Teach, Learn, Share

Well, I'm exploring pilgrimage and hospitality, particularly theological and spiritual reflection on the experience of pilgrimage and the experiences of interchange in hospitality. In terms of skill, will have to think about what is worth sharing.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am happy to bring you treats from the US, as well as share stories and provide a listening ear.
