About Me

CURRENT MISSION

The journey is the destination.

ABOUT ME

We are a family. My wife, Kata is 43, children: Flora (born in 2007), Anna (2012 ) and Adam (2005). I am 47 y.o. We have a small guestroom with a double bed and shower room, also our living-room is available to sleep on the floor. We like to meet people for sharing their culture, stories and friendship with us. (We like cooking and learning your favorites too.) Unfortunately we only speak Hungarian and English. (A little Deutsch, Svenska and Russkij) Budapest is 45 minutes by suburban train.

I worked for 1 year in Sweden (Göteborg) 2 years in Florida and some months in Amman, JORDAN, Finland, and BC, CANADA. I like those places, had a lot of fun and met nice people. I also went to uni in Yorkshire (Huddersfield University) with a scholarship, that was fun too. And did some volunteering in New Zealand, and seriously fell in love with that place.

PHILOSOPHY

Have your own ideas, do not let the media or others tell you what to think!

“I'm vile and perverted.
I'm obsessed and deranged.
I've existed for years but very little has changed.
I'm the tool of the government and industry too.
For I'm destined to rule and regulate you.
You may think I'm pernicious, but you can't look away.
I'll make you think I'm delicious with the stuff that I say.
I'm the best you can get... have you guessed me yet?
I'm the slime oozing out of your TV set....”

"Music is THE BEST.”

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We host CS people when we can, and visit CS people when abroad.
already met some great people. actually we find it THE BEST way of traveling. you meet people, not just visit a city. very big difference!
(I wish CS (and internet) existed in my hitchhiking (student) days. It would have saved me from a lot of sleeping in parks, roadsides and railway stations around Europe.)
An useful article for hosts and surfers:
http://francistapon.com/Travels/Advice/How-to-be-a-Good-Couchsurfing-Guest-and-Host

We don"t really like one day and last minute requests. Simply because we are hosting to know interesting people, to talk, share things and make friends - which needs more time than a few hours.
So if you only write 2-3 (copy-paste) sentences without explanation why would you like to meet us, than your request will get very little attention. It also gives a bigger chance if you read our profile! ;o)
If your profile is empty or has a few basic sentences only, than we suggest to fill it first and send requests only after!
Sorry to say, but we get a lot of requests and 95% of them are very poorly written. Requests less than 8-10 full sentences will not be considered. (In that case you have not even read our profile, so you can not be so interested to meet us.)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We hosted some nice people from USA, Slovenia, Canada, Lithuania, Italy, Spain, Poland, Russia, Hong Kong, France, Singapore, Indonesia, Taiwan, Malaysia, Palestine, Japan, Germany, Belgium, Austria, South Korea, England and Check Rep., and we spent some time in Austria, Slovakia, Sweden, Turkey, Belgium, Italy, Iceland, Denmark, new Zealand , Argentina, Brazil, Japan, Greece and Slovenia with great hosts. (Already a long list of places and long list of new friends!)

Music, Movies, and Books

books:
Vonnegut, Bukowski, Burgess, Hrabal, Esterhazy, Spiro, Auster, Murakami, Martin Millar and 2 great Hungarian poets: Attila Jozsef and Miklos Radnoti (they died long time ago.)
film:
L. Bunuel, R.W. Fassbinder, P.P. Pasolini (my holy trinity of film! + A. Tarkovszkij) and Lars von Trier, Derek Jarman, Alan Parker, Peter Greenaway, Jim Jarmusch, Hal Hartley, Aki Kaurismaki, Miklos Jancso, Kuroszava Akira, dogma films, Bergman, Godard, Neil Jordan, Leos Carax, Ken Russel, Wes Anderson, Roy Anderson, Mike Leigh, Marc Caro, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Veit Helmer, Jan Svankmajer, Alejandro Jodorowsky, too many...Not to forget the great Charlie Chaplin who always makes me smile. yes, and the funniest: Allen Stewart Konigsberg (a.k.a. Woody Allan)
(some famous directors whose films usually I do not find interesting: S. Spielberg, Peter Jackson, Q. Tarantino - OK, Inglourious Basterds is very funny.)
I love documentary, independent films, good animation and dislike hollywood big production. (way too often boring and stereotypical. lacking originality, and focusing on commercial potential and empty but bombastic stories.)
music:
jazz (Roland Kirk, Eric Dolphy, Ornette Coleman, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Art Ensemble of Chicago, Thelonius Monk, Lloyd McNeill, Al di Meola, Don Cherry, McCoy Tyner, Cannonball Adderly, Herbie Hancock, Joe Zawinul, Weather Report, Chick Korea, Jacques Loussier...), classical (Bartók, Bach, Vivaldi, Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn, Stravinsky, a little Rachmaninov, Mussorgsky, Purcell, Handell, ...) and "progressive" rock (Gentle Giant, Yes, King Crimson, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, Van Der Graaf Generator, Out Of Focus, Frank Zappa, Traffic, After Crying, ELP, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Comus, early Genesis, The Soft Machine, The Doors, Nucleus, Grateful Dead many Italians, Germans (Krautrock) and a lot more...)
We both are music lovers. Play a little guitar, drums and flute. and sing every day.
Our son plays saxophone, guitar, drums and the girls learn the flute and violin.
