About Me

I am a reader, writer, researcher, creator, seeker of truth, worker for justice, natural world observer, sometime pilgrim. Lover of all creatures. Child of God. Anti-racist.

Part-time artist/community organizer and part-time legal worker but full-time truth seeker. I'm not as young as I used to be, but I am way wiser. I still like to laugh. Try to make art every day. Try to raise hell/question authority once a week.Try to do a random act of kindness each month. Tell a good story to an audience several times a year.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My husband and I recently downsized and do not have the amount of extra space we used to have, but we still love to meet people, learn new things and we found we missed hosting guests as we did when we where younger. It's part of who we are. We'd like to share that, even briefly. We have not been able to travel widely, but we have enjoyed meeting people from around the globe.

Interests

I love birds and birding. For nearly 20 years I've volunteered on a project that studies owls. I observe urban wildlife - a surprising amount lives in my city. I am a self-taught experimental artist. I like trying new things. I study native plants of my area and encourage their use in urban areas and suburban backyards. I am active with several social justice groups - especially those that work with marginalized groups.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - everything from Dvorak to Public Enemy to Mumford and Son with the Rend Collective and Johnny Cash thrown in for good measure. Celtic music is a favorite

My husband enjoys Action and Adventure movies, especially ones set in historical contexts. I like Documentaries, most recently viewed 13th and Into the Inferno. We both like SciFi movies

Books - I try to read more authors of Color and women authors most. Well written mysteries and suspense novels are my literary junk food. I also like collections of short stories.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Decided that being an artist bears no relation to the grades I received in art classes in High School

Teach, Learn, Share

I am always happy to learn something new: a knitting stitch, a sewing technique, or being introduced to a new author.

When we have time, we are available to show couchsurfers around the area, give a tour of Gettysburg or provide some bird or plant identification.

Sometimes there are book and artwork we can share.

What I Can Share with Hosts

We are willing to pitch-in and do dishes, make a meal, or launder our sheets.

We will probably bring some regional specialty with us as well.
