About Me

CURRENT MISSION

would like to meet more people, and travel

ABOUT ME

I think they would say that I am a very unusual guy who was born in the wrong century! I like music and things in general of about 100 years ago! This is reflected in my tates in collecting, the music I listen to and play, and the style and decor of my house. They would also say that I am not afraid of being unpopular if I think a thing is wrong or unfair I will say so. They might probably add that I am more comfortable in the company of males. I think I am a thoughtful, caring sort of person who would always make the effort to help someone who was lonely or in need - but certainly no saint!

PHILOSOPHY

How can I not sound pretentious?! I think we are here to learn through our life experience. I think we get some of the greatest pleasure in life by helping others. I used to go to church, but now feel I understand why religions exist....but that would take more space than I have here ( and would be best chatted about over a pint!) I do believe in God however.

Oh yeah, I'm gay. :-)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

several friends locally have been involved in CS and I hosted a couple of Couch Surfers without initially knowing about the programme

Interests

You will have gathered music is very important to me, and I can take refuge from a world that I find hard to bear at times, in a record collection of several thousand items ranging from 1890 to around 1935. I play the piano and organ, and am lucky enough to have two nice instruments in my house! I am fond of animals, and although I also like air guns, would never want to kill anything unless I was very hungry! I was adopted by a stray cat about 6 years ago, who I call "Skippy"

Music, Movies, and Books

I used to read old chemistry books for pleasure! But now, detective fiction. My music is my life and I have talked about that elswhere in the profile.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I gave a lecture on the history and chemistry of sound recording at Columbia University, NY as part of a summer school programme in 1991. A bit scary, but I'm pleased I did it. I also played a few notes on the largest pipe organ ever built, in Atlantic City NJ.

Teach, Learn, Share

I teach the piano, and also English. People say I often have a good, clear way of explaining things. I get great pleasure in helping people understand what I am trying to get across, and I often regret not still being more actively involved in the teaching profession.

Countries I’ve Visited

China, Czech Republic, Sweden, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In

Canada, United Kingdom
