Overview
About Me
Please note; I tend to check my emails a couple of times a day so if you want to request a stay please give AT LEAST 24 hours notice - otherwise I might not get your message until after you want to visit!
CURRENT MISSION
To live life to the full and treasure every moment. I agree with Mark Twain that the worst regrets are for the things you DIDN'T do when you had the chance.
ABOUT ME
In my fifties I broke free of my job and home to go travelling. Now back in England, settled in a beautiful and historic part of the world that I would love to share with visitors.
PHILOSOPHY
- that happy memories are more important than a big bank balance.
- that life is precious and we need to treasure the little moments because they are gone too soon.
one of my favourite quotes is Robert Heinlein's 'Never resist temptation - it may not come your way again'.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Would welcome visitors to this part of the country as a way of repaying the people who hosted me on my travels.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
In 2011 I took a six-month trip around the world, doing things that had been on my 'wish-list' for years and seeing friends who had only been e-mail addresses. I stayed with couch-surfing hosts on several occasions and was made to feel very welcome. I hope to be able to reciprocate with visitors to England.
If anyone is interested in reading about my adventures, I have written a series of books about my travels, available on Amazon as 'Travels with a penguin'
Interests
History, science, reading, writing, astronomy, longbow archery, gardening, playing the harmonica (badly). I used to ice-skate (before my knees started to protest) and enjoy watching ballet
PS my friends would add 'chocolate' to this list!

Music, Movies, and Books
Favourite book - Richard Bach's 'Illusions'
Favourite films - Chaplin's City lights/ Disney's Fantasia/ 2001; space odyssey.
Music - anything that puts pictures in my head or makes me want to move, from Swan Lake to Johnny B Goode
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
- the aurora borealis
- a lunar eclipse
- hearing the silence of Antarctica
- a bluebell wood that cries out to be painted by someone with the skills of Monet
- having a whale surface right next to where I was standing on a boat so my face got wet when he 'blew' and I could see a rainbow in the water droplets of his breath
- but the most mind-blowing of all was touching an ammonite fossil that is emerging from the rocks on Lyme Regis beach and knowing it was alive 100 MILLION years ago (see pic in photo file)
Teach, Learn, Share
I could show you the night sky (weather permitting!), cook my favourite chocolate dish and fix a stiff neck.
I love to learn - I've got a brain stuffed with interesting, quirky and totally useless facts. Amaze me!
What I Can Share with Hosts
I live in a beautiful and historic part of England with places to visit ranging from a Roman city, a mediaeval town, an 18th century mansion and the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution
Following advice from another hosting group I belong to, I can offer accommodation for a maximum of THREE nights. Please note, I can only accommodate ONE guest at a time (Female guests preferred), so if you are a couple please ask someone else.
