I love moments in nature ... isolated times when my wife and I have witnessed the power of the sea, the quiet of the mountains and more. Wading into the Gulf of Mexico and casting a small bait in hopes of catching a large redfish, sitting on the banks of a mountain stream and not caring if a trout hits the fly I just cast. I am also awestruck by the beauty of live music, particularly in small venues, often with singer/songwriters with folk or blues roots. One of my most interesting days was when I decided to maintain my walking regimen while on a business trip to Washington DC almost 20 years ago. As I navigated the busy sidewalks and drank in my surroundings, I was in awe of the opportunity to be so close to history ... especially when I decided to take a breather on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, a site that moves me both because of the man it honors and because of the man who delivered one of our nation's greatest speeches at the feet of the emancipator.

Muzyka, filmy i książki

I love to read serious American lit, including Ernest Gaines,John Steinbeck, Ernest Hemingway, Annie Proulx, Anne Tyler and more. I also love wacky mystery authors such as Janet Evanovich and Joan Hess. Walter Mosely and James Herriot are also favorites of mine. In music, I enjoy Lyle Lovett, Woody Guthrie, James Taylor, Bonnie Raitt, Carol King, Tommy Paxton, Eric Clapton, the Allman Brothers and Adele among many other big names. Off the beaten path, I love Chris Smither, James Blunt, the McKay Brothers and Ruthie Foster. Movies run the gamut.

Getting a VIP tour with a group of editors at the White House, including a meeting with George Stephanapolous.

Walking the sidelines and shooting photos on the field at Lambeau Stadium.

Standing beneath a giant redwood in Redwood National Park.

I enjoy meeting people from different cultures, different backgrounds and different races. I have learned a lot in the last few years from a young Nepalese man I befriended nearly 10 years ago as well as from some "good old boys" who are natives of Texas.
