About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Enjoy Every Second. Also; five new countries per year. Trying to buy the local football team's shirt (often my local host/friend's favourite team).

ABOUT ME

I have always loved meeting new people, hearing their stories, sharing mine. While singing and playing music for complete strangers in the park, while exploring a new city on my own by wandering around talking to the locals or while jumping into a football game on the beach, I always try to spend my short little while on earth as good as I can. I love writing, learning languages, meeting new people, collecting how-did-I-end-up-here-situations and telling stories - which is perfect for my job as a journalist.

I would never go to Rome only to see the Colosseum - I'd go to Rome to sit in a small coffee shop in a thin street, conversating with a local citizen, improving my italian and getting to know Rome as the italians know it. Okay, Rome could be a bad example because I've actually been there three times now, but if we are now using Italy as an example, I'd rather go to a little countryside village free from tourists than these classic tourist spots. When Ryanair gave me a free ticket anywhere in Europe (journalist perks) I picked Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro.

I am based in London, because living in London is the cheapest way to travel around the world everyday, and work as kind of a correspondent for Sweden's biggest newspaper, Aftonbladet.

Whether I'm working or not, I want to keep ending up in random places and come back with a story. I hope to meet you somewhere along the way.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Living in a shared house in London, I have friends from all over the world visiting me all the time and am not able to host couch surfers. But I'm happy to help with tips on nice places and bars (I've written four London guides after all) if you need it. I'm an expert on London bars, after five years of constant exploring. So I mainly use Couchsurfing when I'm abroad, to get a richer experience when traveling and get to know the locals, the soul of the place I'm going to. If I've stayed with you you are of course welcome to crash at mine when you are visiting London, or whatever city I'll be in.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I snuck into the infamous San Pedro Prison in La Paz.
It had become too dangerous for them to host guided tours so I went there on a visitor's day, made friends with a man in the queue, asked him who he was visiting and spent the rest of the hour in the queue learning his son's name.
I had read a book about a Swedish guy who spent a few years in the prisoner-run "hell on earth" and interviewed the same guy a couple of years ago. He told me he'd seen his cellmate getting stabbed to death by a screwdriver and many of the prisoners on the inside told me similar stories. I however got out ok and could look back at the sunny day inside those high walls as one of the best memories from my South America trip. Visiting Machu Picchu - not even close.

Teach, Learn, Share

I want to learn local stories and languages.

I am very happy to talk to you a bit about culture in Sweden, about the way I think our constant fight for gender equality and tolerance as well as our relaxed view on traditions there really helps making it a great place to be from.

Other than that – happy to share whatever else that could be interesting (and isn't money).

What I Can Share with Hosts

Stories, jokes and beers.
