About Me

I have moved about 20 times in the last decade, towards the end of 2018 I moved to Canada from Germany. I travel whenever I see a cheap flight somewhere interesting, and have managed to visit a pretty large amount of places so far.

I am looking to host/surf with anyone, but especially people from different cultures, or show people from similar cultures a new one! You can also find me on BeWelcome and WarmShowers, as I know Couchurfing can be limiting in recent years (number of requests and such) for new members who don't want to pay (so if you are a new/restricted member, feel free to find me and send me a request on BeWelcome instead of using your limited requests!)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I Couchsurf to meet people, experience new cultures, and doing/learning new things. I am totally fine visiting and being independent in my travels if my host is busy, but also happy to hangout and look around with my host too!

I am a tidy and polite guest, and try to be a very accommodating host!

Interests

Some the hobbies I prefer are motorcycles, quading, skiing, hiking, camping, or just chilling at a pub or better the beach, though I've gotten a bit lazier in the last years and do a lot more people watching and coffee drinking.

I like to meet surfers/hosts very different from me, and see how you live, and of course vice versa, new cultures, new people, new anything, is awesome! I love to try new things, see new places and meet new people!

I like to cook, and to try new foods and to learn how to make new ones (not a fan of seafood though, mostly hate it).

When I travel, I prefer a mix of city and the outdoors or nature over museums and tourist attractions as they all turn into the same thing after a short while.

Music, Movies, and Books

Favorites are too hard to choose, and I change my mind too often anyway, best to ask over a drink. I like scifi and mind-twister types of books and movies, as well as inappropriate type of humor shows (e.g. Archer), though not so much the usual type of comedy movie shows (hangover, superbad and such are a big meh).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Going to Egypt during ongoing protests in 2012 (which led up to the 2013 coup d'état). Just a few days after I left, the US embassy was taken over by protestors for (unrelated?) reasons. Needless to say, it was a unique experience being there around this time, and the lines were very, very short. I think it was the first time I saw security guards with AK-47s up close and everywhere.

This happened due to some random choices and my lack of even minimal research (ooo Egypt, that place has tons of cool stuff!). Basically, it started by changing my mind at the last minute to fly from Barcelona to Lisbon, and instead flew from Barcelona to Cairo . The tickets were just too cheap to ignore & when I was looking at accommodation, wow $5 a night for a hotel with AC and included breakfast, can't pass on that as a recently graduated unemployed nomad! I had some crazy experiences there, being one of the only guests at hostels and hotels, and having huge attractions with normally massive lines all to myself. Meanwhile doing some 180s when I walk around a corner onto a street with hundreds of riot police pouring out of weird house-on-wheel-trucks, and being questioned by soldiers in a tank at checkpoints.

I'm not sure if that is the best use of the word "amazing" but it certainly was interesting, I also found some interesting insight into how powerful the sense of home and belonging can be, having made short-term friends with some hawkers (after they realized I wasn't giving into their games), learning they had studied and lived in Canada, but were happier in their dusty (and super hot) store in Luxor, even during all the crazy riots and such. Plus, they were quick to point out Canada was just too cold to live in (as we sat sweating in 40+ degree weather drinking hot tea)!

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to learn about new cultures! As for teaching, anything I know I am more than happy to share! I seem to know a lot of stuff about things to a small degree, but don't know many things to a strong degree. But I did recently learn how to make some decent espresso on an overpriced machine I picked up....

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am a clean, polite, and respectful guest. I am happy to be flexible around your schedule of course!
