ABOUT ME

I travel like Tony Wheeler !

PHILOSOPHY

I am a Greco-Roman, Judeo-Christian, Existential Atheist who loves religious music and art. Other than that I am very closed minded! Politically I am a business Democrat, who doesn't hate corporations or entrepreneurs but does think that government should supply essential services such as health care, education, roads and bridges, and that having national educational standards would be a good thing along with increased emphasis on art and music being part of the curriculum.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have hosted musicians for BLEMF (Bloomington Early Music Festival) at my house and we also host visiting participants to my recorder consort workshops. I have stayed at my friend Guido Klemisch's place in Berlin and couch-surfed with someone in Frankfurt. We have also hosted couch-surfers from Maine and Germany.

Interests

I am interested in renaissance and baroque music as well as classical, romantic, and jazz, pop and country. I also am totally stuck on watching good movies on my home theater.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hitching through Prague in 1968 shortly before it was overrun by Russian tanks. I couch-surfed with a lady who worked as a secretary to Otto Sik, and we talked about "socialism with a human face" and visited many interesting spots in the city. When I later saw the headlines about the Soviet tanks rolling through the city my heart sank.

Teach, Learn, Share

I like to learn languages, particularly French, Japanese, German, and Dutch. I can coach recorder ensembles in renaissance and baroque music as well as some modern and latin arrangements.
