Continue learning on the journey of life. I really want to see as many cool cities as there are, even the uncool cities. I’m fascinated with all of them as well as everything they have to offer and the people living in them. I’m slowly checking them off one by one.

ABOUT ME

I am living in Sparks, NV, near Reno, NV. I'm a teacher and a coach. I'm over 40 (yikes!) but occasionally act like I'm in my late teens. I love to lift weights, walk, see live music, travel, read, explore, eat, hang out with friends, etc. I've held a variety of jobs and I'm well educated. I like to think of myself as a renaissance man in the era of iPhones. Fair warning: I don't have cable and I have a dog. Public transit is not great in Reno/Sparks, and my house is in the suburbs, so transportation can be a bit of a hassle.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am making a comeback to Couchsurfing, I used it as much as I could while studying abroad in 2013-14. I’ve hosted a few people since then, but I really just want to try to do meet ups/hangouts more than surfing these days. Mainly looking for people who are proud of their city and have time to show me some of the bright spots. I am looking forward to enriching my life through traveling and meeting interesting people in the process.

Músicas, Filmes e Livros

All kinds of music save new country western and a great deal of techno and house music. I can listen to it, but I prefer not to. Favorites include Beck, The Black Keys, Muse, Ryan Adams, the Strokes, Bruce Springsteen, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Todd Snider, the Gaslight Anthem, soul music, and so much more. I think live music is the world’s greatest art form and I will see it any time I can. Movies; The Dark Knight, Gladiator, Groundhog Day--Anything with Bill Murray really, The Big Lebowski, The Usual Suspects, UHF, Old School, No Country for Old Men, Wes Anderson movies, many more, the weirder the better. Mostly comedies but up for anything in the realm of movies really. Books; Hunter S. Thompson, The Devil in the White City, Man's Search for Meaning, The Catcher in the Rye, Chuck Klosterman, Atomic Habits, dystopias, science fiction, autobiographies, biographies, historical fiction, history, classics, etc.

Christmas 2012 marked the best trip I've taken in my life. I started in Finland, went to Poland, Hungary, Serbia, Bosnia, and Croatia. Didn't have the opportunity to Couchsurf as our group was a little too large. I also went to Super Bowl XXXV, Ravens vs Giants, in 2001, where Adam Sandler said "Hello" to me, and there was a B2 Stealth bomber flyover. The Ravens won in a blowout, Ray Lewis was the MVP, Trent Dilfer went to Disneyland, and there were back-to-back kickoff returns for touchdowns. If you don't understand American Football, then that was probably all jibberish, needless to say I found it quite cool.

I am fascinated by history. I have a head full of useless information and will be glad to share it with you as well as my opinions on the meaning of life, the universe, sports, movies, TV programs, music, the human condition, what happens when you die, and much more. If you get sick of it, you can tell me to shut up and I won't be offended. In fact, not much will offend me.
