Hola,

My name is Sarah, I’m a twenty eight year old, veterinarian from New Zealand, currently travelling through Latin America volunteering and pet/house sitting for the past year. Most recently I’ve been learning to sail in the sea of Cortez! An incredible place! But now it is time to sadly say goodbye to Mexico for a time as I take on the opportunity to be a deckhand on another sail boat heading north to Vancouver island.

A little about my trip so far:
I started out in Chile Last February with friends to cycle the Carretera Austral, Hiked over to Argentina and then made my way through Guatemala teaching english, learning Spanish, exploring the natural wonders of this beautiful country, embracing yoga in the jungle and then passing into Belize to work on some permaculture properties.

I arrived in Mexico eight months ago and it’s been hard to come to terms with leaving this place! I started out by spending two months working and completing a scuba diving internship in Mahahual, Quintana Roo, Mexico - the Caribbean was phenomenal! Then continued through the southern states checking out Mayan ruins, rock climbing, and just exploring and enjoying local cuisine. Reaching Oaxaca by New Years to surf!

Most recently I’ve been based in Baja California Sur, working in exchange for more diving qualifications and learning to sail in the sea of Cortez.

A little more about me:
I love sport, so have dabbled in many over the years, though I've now settled on a few including: trail running, rock climbing, slack lining, surfing, ocean swimming, yoga and tramping.
I'm a big fan of embracing the outdoors, so tramping up mountains, walks along the coast and swimming in the sea are defiantly on my weekend todo list.
Since leaving home I’ve always lived with others, and find this a fun way to exist. Especially sharing stories at the end of the day over a meal.

Mi nombre es Sarah, soy una veterinaria de veintiocho años de Nueva Zelanda, que actualmente viaja por América Latina como voluntaria y cuidando mascotas / casas. Siempre he querido viajar, y después de retrasarme por la pandemia estaba muy emocionado de poder hacer esto realidad este año.

Comencé en Chile en febrero con amigos para recorrer en bicicleta la Carretera Austral, caminé hasta Argentina y luego recorrí Guatemala enseñando inglés, aprendiendo español, explorando las maravillas naturales de este hermoso país, abrazando el yoga en la selva y luego pasando a Belice para trabajar en algunas propiedades de permacultura.

Llegué a México hace 2 meses y acabo de terminar una pasantía de buceo en Mahahual, Quintana Roo, México y ahora deseo dirigirme al norte para ver más de este hermoso país.

Un poco más sobre mí: me encanta el deporte, así que he incursionado en muchos a lo largo de los años, aunque ahora me he decidido por algunos, incluyendo: trail running, escalada en roca, slack lining, surf, natación en el océano, yoga y tramping.
Soy un gran fanático de abrazar el aire libre, por lo que caminar montañas, caminar por la costa y nadar en el mar están desafiantemente en mi lista de tareas pendientes de fin de semana.

Desde que salí de casa, siempre he vivido con otros, y encuentro que esta es una forma divertida de existir. . Especialmente compartir historias al final del día durante una comida.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

I think it will be a great way to meet local people and experience places in a more genuine way, not just through tourist eyes. I love getting to know people from different backgrounds and cultures and sharing stories and experiences.
Couch surfing has been one of the best ways for me to improve my Spanish as often while volunteering I am in environments where my English is valued and so I don’t get to practice/fully immerse. Mexico has been wonderful for couch surfing!
I’m looking forward to being able to pay it forward and host when I have my own place to call home.
