About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Meeting new friends and having a blast!

ABOUT ME

After living in Italy for almost 10 years I (a Finn by origin) decided to move on with my life and, believe it or not, like clockwork I met my wonderful husband there, just before it was time to leave.

We got transferred to Indiana, where we are currently living. I am in school to be a paramedic and also spend my days doing housewife stuff (that reminds me, gotta do laundry!).

I have already made friends here in Indiana and we have the same hobby: belly dance! My grandmother pushed me to it and it was the best legacy to have (OK, she's still with us, so I guess it's an anticipated legacy).

I am very happy to have moved here, although people said it would have been tough. I must admit it was tough in the beginning, but now things are going back to normal and I just love it here.

I am also thinking of continuing my other hobbies: improvisation and climbing.

I go everywhere by bike, which is fun for the Americans to see, as they are not used to seeing people doing their grocery shopping on a bicycle! I get the weirdest looks sometimes, like "How does she do it?".

I am outgoing, fun and patient with great sense of adventure (sometimes no self-preservation instinct :) ).

I am trying to eat well, which is more challenging here in the US, and cook healthy vegetable meals for my husband. I love salads and vegetable juices make me really happy! I am of course a social eater, so an occasional hamburger or a pizza is not against my "regime".

I was taught to be very respectful of others and an independent person. In fact I am also an independent traveler. I enjoy meeting new people and I love discovering new cultures. I find it wonderful how no matter where we are from, we are always the same!

Having lived on my own for several years, I appreciate hospitality and am a very clean and easy guest to have. I have great respect for personal space and you do not need to tell me twice about boundaries. I find it is only natural to be curious about a person who you are inviting in your home. I think CouchSurfing is a wonderful initiative that will hopefully one day make hotels obsolete, when we all know each other and get on well enough to live together for a few days!

It is in my culture to bring a small "thank you" souvenir, so don't be alarmed. It is just my way of saying "Thank you for hosting me and for the chance to become friends". If you are uncomfortable with the gesture, please let me know and I will respect your choice.
