ABOUT ME

I'm a traveler living in Montréal, Canada. I love to travel but I also love this city and all the things I can do best when I have a home base, so I keep a balance of traveling vs. mostly staying at home. In 2011 it's the second one, but I'm excited by a few shorter trips I'm hoping to do.

I really enjoy building and modifying things - both the process and the end result. I like the feeling of independence that comes from creating or repairing the stuff I use daily, and my ability to customize things to fit my needs as opposed to the needs of some imagined generic consumer unit.

My last big trip was in 2010: I took the year off work and traveled around the world, including Japan then Singapore to London by train (with lots of stops and side trips along the way!)

PHILOSOPHY

On a long bike trip, I had a sign on the back of my bike that said "enjoy the journey". I try to apply that to all journeys, physical and metaphorical.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I used couchsurfing a lot when I was in Japan (even though I lived in my own short term apartment) to meet people and find interesting things to do. I've surfed a couple of times recently while traveling, which was a really enjoyable way to get to know places and people in a way that staying in hotels or hostels can't do!

I've also really enjoyed meeting people while traveling and then staying with them when I'm in their city. That's couchsurfing, even if it didn't use this site :)

Interessen

Cycling (especially touring), rock climbing, hiking, canoeing, skiing...

Trying new foods. Experiencing new things. Hearing interesting ideas. Exploring cities with no goal in mind...

Burning Man and related festivals - anywhere there's fire art, really.
