About Me

CURRENT MISSION

We want to travel from NYC overland though central America, around South America & finishing in Rio de Janeiro for Carnival in February - no planes, just trains, buses, horses & our own feet!

ABOUT ME

We are an open, friendly and relaxed couple who love an adventure. We both are happiest when we are travelling & last year - after deciding to leave New Zealand where we were living & head back to the UK - we completed a trip that took us overland from Singapore, through the heat of Asia to the wilds of Tibet, across Siberian Russia & finally to Europe. We are hoping that this trip will bring us as many amazing experiences...

PHILOSOPHY

We'll keep it brief & as unpretentious as possible..! Expect less, appreciate more.
And always treat others how you would like to be treated - simple but effective!

We travel whenever we can and the main thing we have learnt is just how much in common we all have.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We had both couchsurfed a fair bit before we met - mostly around New Zealand and a little in Europe. We only couchsurfed in Russia on our way back to the UK.

Interests

Steve: Photography (see our photos) , permaculture, woodwork, bread baking (which Ellie thinks appeals to my meticulous nature!), scuba diving...

Ellie: Cooking (particularly Middle Eastern food - big fan of Moro in London), running, wine, junk/second/book hand shops, yoga, simple living & gardening...

We both love being outside & are planning on doing a lot of hiking in S.America.

Music, Movies, and Books

Steve: authors: Stephen King, Terry Pratchett
Music: big fan of electronic music...Bonobo being my favourite...but generally I like all kinds of music really.
Movies:lots...but what I really love is a good documentary.
Ellie: I love books. Some favourite authors are: Margaret Attwood, Kazuo Ishiguro, Vladamir Nabokov, Jonathan Franzen, Joseph Conrad, William Faulkner and Arundhati Roy. Music wise, Dylan, The Stones, Alt-J, Ella Fitzgerald...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hard question we've been very lucky...but one amazing experience on our last trip was being invited to a Tibetan wedding... If we meet you, we'll tell you the full story!

Teach, Learn, Share

Ellie: I ran an organic café in New Zealand and am always up for a recipe swap/a shared meal! I am keen to meet anyone who is open minded but would particularly like to stay with people who I can practice yoga with. Also anyone who has an interest growing their own fruit & veg...

Steve: I am learning Spanish right now & want to practice as much as possible so any Spanish speakers (or fellow learners) would be great. Otherwise just genuine, relaxed & happy people to share evenings in new places with.

We both tried paddle-boarding in Wilmington, NC - we are hooked & want to do more!
