About Me

FIRST AND FOREMOST
- My profile is not up to date. After I moved away from Delft, I hardly changed something.
- If you request to stay with me, I'll usually respond within a few hours (during daylight). Please read the FIRST AND FOREMOST-section and the "my house"-section and include the sentence "Currently, I/we do not have open requests with other hosts and I/we have all the things I/we need with me/us" and I will most probably accept your request.
- Respect in requesting is important to me. Sadly that's not for everyone in here. So I don't want to be part of a mass request. Please only ask one person at a time, because everyone is human here and deserves respect. Therefore, I like it when people answer to requests. As an active host I receive many requests (when I lived in Delft about 3 times a week) and I plan my time accordingly. I enjoy to help people but I am feeling misused when I get canceled then.
- Some people don’t host surfers if they don’t have any reference, but I don`t care. But the idea of CS was to host first and surf then. Why should I trust you, if you don’t trust anyone. Think about it ;)

- My Covid-status: Vaccinated and also recovered. (both twice)
- I am not interessted in sexual contact but I am open to cuddle (any gender).
- Duolingo: Theo262824

CURRENT MISSION

I am sure that the question "Why do you do what you do?" is a lot more important than the question "What do you do?".
If you have not asked yourself the question "Why do I do what I do?", then the right time is... asap!
Certainly, you can be in whatever job or do whatever. But if your only reason or motivation is to earn money or have as much joy as possible... Maybe you should rethink that.
I'm happy to rethink together with you ;)

Currently, my biggest goal is to finish my PhD in computer science and become a professor in the same field, later on. That comsumes most of my time, currently.
I am somewhat surprised that I ended up in that spot. Just a couple of years ago, I was occupying forests and wanted to change society to a better. However, I can't stand the violence that is impossed by the state any longer and I don't really see the possible leverage to pull in order to bring necessary changes for social and climate justice.
So, am "retrating" and do a lot of mathematics. In my thesis I study several biological questions in the field mass extinction of animals from an algorithmical point of view. I am not sure whether I really contribute to a societivic change with that, but at least it does not feel harmful.
Overall, my ultimate goal is to leave a positive effect in society. To do this, I would like to learn more values that have become important to me, such as meakness, generosity, and loving people around me.
Along the way, I would like to meet cool people and have cool times with friends.

ABOUT ME

In my life I have tried many things and then followed through pretty consistently. To give just a small list of them: I was successful in my studies, I visited many soccer stadiums, I was quite successful in party politics, I occupied forests, and and and. A very colorful bouquet of life experiences.
An interesting fact about me: I share all my money in a group. So we so not have to be lone warriors. Please dare to ask me more about that, if you are interested.
Without a doubt, the most important step in my life was that I decided to walk with Jesus and this constant has continued throughout the years.
For me it is important to not live on the cost of others. Minimalism and living mostly good with nature are one of my top ideals.

POLITICAL VIEW ON TRAVELLING

Please understand that in the following lines, I do not want to condemn you and rather want to give you a better insight in whether you want to stay with me.
The way we travel is an important topic as it is directly connected to Couchsurfing.
When I am thinking about travel then I am thinking about rather close than far away places that I have not yet. Therefore, I have not been outside Europe ever since I am an adult. It rather fascinates me te learn more about places that are not so known and experience the distance that I have to travel to that spot.
It feels to me, that I am in an absolute minority in that sense. What I experience is that a lot of people pick the prime touristic goals, fly there, take a few pictures and fly back home. This behaviour challenges me for several reasons.
First, I do not understand the purpose of taking pictures at places in order to share them on social media. It has been proven several times that people are more likely to be depressed when they spend a lot of time on these platforms. Hence, I would rather enjoy the time at some place without taking pictues - (It sometimes even feels as if taking pictures and boosting that you have been there, is the only reason for the trip).
Secondly, the environmental impact of flying is enormous. For example PER PERSON a Lufthansa-flight from Boston to Frankfurt and back causes roughly 3.4 tons of CO2. To bring that in perspective, the amount of CO2 per person that a person can emmit per year (food,housing,travelling,..) is 2 tons if we wish to have sustainability. I try my best to avoid flying - which even gives me a lot of disadventages in my job. And then I really wonder why others want to fly around the world when they have not yet seen the cities and nice natural spots that can easily be reached by train.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I really enjoy talking to other persons and to see what moves them on. Every person has their own story and so it is really fascinating to get to know them. Because only if you talk to others you see a the political opinion they have and both participants in the conversation get to think about the opinion they have - if the conversation is good. So the only way to break old sat in positions is to talk and rethink each others thoughts about thinks.
Furthermore whenever one gets to see another city you only see a little bit if you don't plan to get into touch with the persons. But the inhabitants are those who are the color and character of a city and you only get to see what a city is like if you plan to get to see them.
Sadly CS for some is just a cheap way to find a sleeping position. That's not how it should be. Well it's cool that you save some money but that's not what thrives me. So please only text me if you want to talk and exchange thoughts.

Interests

Apart from the university I spend most of my time with ecological activism on several platforms.
Ever since 2014 I'm traveling in summer with my best friend Niklas. We always search for cheap tickets with bus and train and take them. It's really cool that we have such a deep bound.
Niklas and I also go in trips with our bicyles on relatively long trips.
As I love nature snowboarding brings a lot of great views 🗻 which I like, besides the fact that the sport is super cool. However, I have not been snowboarding in years.
I love to play board games.

Music, Movies, and Books

My taste of music changes a lot from time to time. I used to listen to hip hop a lot. But in recent times I also like rock music. But most important is that whatever music I am listening to has a text which raises an issue or tells a good story.
The same can be said about books and movies. I like to have interesting and as well political issues.
I am currently running two reading circles.
My list of recommended books:
- The holy Bible (of course)
- Exit Racism from Tupoka Ogette (you can find it on Spotify)
- The great controversy
- Steps to Christ
- The Why Cafe
- The richest caveman
- The desire of ages
