About Me

I'm a professional musician playing in a variety of bands/projects, tennis player, coffee drinker, an outdoor and adventure lover, avid reader, and a Master of Environment student establishing a new pathway in conservation. Am quite interested in biosecurity as well after taking a class on it. Practice yoga (including Ashtanga) and meditation.

I grew up in the north of Tassie until I was 8, and coming back down there for a chunk of the summer to do a Vipassana, hike the South Coast Trek, and pursue any other adventures that present themselves.

Old Bio:

Earlier in 2018 I came back to Australia to return into working as a professional musician, and also to start an Arts degree at University of Melbourne (studying Geography). This was after over 2 years abroad doing a mix of things such as teaching English in Kazakhstan and a bicycle tour through Asia! I randomly bought a bicycle in Kathmandu and started my trip quite unprepared in August 2016 in Nepal, going into very remote and muddy regions in the West, crossing into India, riding through the Himalayas to Ladakh to Kashmir, then going back down through Himachal south to Rajasthan, before flying from Delhi to Almaty, Kazakhstan, where I lived for 7 months and taught English. Then took off again through Kyrgyzstan, the Pamir Highway in Tajikistan and onto Uzbekistan. Now my bicycle is still stuck in Tbilisi, Georgia (long story ha...I will get it one day!)

I have spent alot of time working as professional musician back in Australia and on cruise ships in Europe/Caribbean, and although I miss it a lot I also love the adventures of seeing the world and doing new things! There are too many things I want to do haha, but I'd like to study and give myself a better chance of working within a charity or organisation having strong impact on a global social issue such as poverty, hunger, human trafficking etc.

I love the outdoors - camping, hiking, playing tennis, futsal. Doing a lot of yoga these days. Read a lot of non-fiction books and learning about the world. Enjoy good conversations over a beer or red wine :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

For all the fantastic experiences of meeting amazing people, sharing and learning!

Interests

Music - performing, jamming, & listening.
Outdoors - hiking, biking, diving, running, climbing, beach - anything!
Reading, doco's, learning history and world matters.
Meeting new people from all over the world and sharing good experiences!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - too much to list but alot of soul, funk, Motown, reggae, jazz and acoustic.
Books - history, adventure/survival stories, global issues, geopolitics (mostly non-fiction).
Movies - more so documentaries than movies but it's all cool!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

-Used to be in a crazy, theatrical, costumed glam rock n' roll band, and was on Australia's Got Talent Semi Finals in 2009. (I'll send you the YouTube link if you request it....it's pretty ridiculous in a good way)

-10,000km bicycle tour through remote parts of Nepal, India & Central Asia, beginning at 30m above sea level and many times climbing mountain passes over 4,000m, with the highest being 5,370m high in Ladakh. During this trip, I've slept in random places such as a military checkpoint on the Tajik border with Afghanistan, in a storage room for a roadside Hindu temple, with a CouchSurfing host in Northern India who was the superintendent police officer for the whole region and had his own security guards and cooks, in an abandoned house in no-man's-land - in between the borders of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan....and more :)

-Bought a motorbike in Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) with 2 other travellers, learnt how to ride it, and then spent 2 months riding over 4000kms from south to north, having some crazy experiences!

Teach, Learn, Share

Let's see where the conversation leads...:)
