About Me

I have raised my kids and one is graduated, employed and settled. My daughter is still in college, but travels a lot. She is currently in Alaska working and did lots of mission work in foreign countries prior to finding a way to travel and get paid. I miss my kids a lot and am adjusting to my empty nest. I love to travel, but don't very much because of the expense. I am divorced and have always just survivied to get my kids through school. I teach GED classes at the prison here. I like my job, it is a way to give back and get paid for it. It is a real challenge to get the guys to want better for themselves.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to try couchsurging because I am ready to enrich my life. I heard about this sight through a friend and she loves it. I am still a little concerned about safety, but we will see. I have heard it is a great way to travel, make friends, and experience new cultures. I love people and love to make them laugh. I want to enjoy life and see something new. I love learning new things.

Interests

I love animals especially dogs. I live on a small farm so gardening and my yard are where I spend a great deal of my time. I like to use and repurpose thing to use in my yard to give it a fun and inviting look. This was my grandparents farm so I have over 50 years worth of "stuff" to work with. I like to cook, but mainly homecooking or Mexican. I also like to go listen to music at outdoon venues. I enjoy music, estate sales, flea markets and meeting new people.

Music, Movies, and Books

I tend to like what I call Texas Country or Alternative Country. I like all kinds of country, as well as, old Rock N Roll like ZZ Top, Aerosmith and etc. I read mainly mysteries or biographies. I like movies that are comedies, I tend to avoid films that are too violent or sad. I try to stay in a positive place and I have a lot of empathy for people so I try not to see any more drama than I am required.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Every mom, or think every mom, will say I had children and I survived. I don't feel like I have done any one thing that was amazing. I feel like it is amazing that I have survived my life, raised successful, happy children and love life. I have a good attitude and am extremely good at rolling with the punches. I have always worked in helping professions and watching damaged children get better is pretty amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know a lot about animals. I could take my guests out on the farm and show them how to feed cattle. It is awesome watching the little calves and their demanding mothers. I can cook, do some garden design. Where I live is like going back in time. It is a very simple uncomplicated life. There is very little traffic or chaos, unless the neighbor's donkey gets out.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am sure the main thing I will share is a very distinct Texas accent. I have not traveled to many places and I am sure I will be amazed at anything I experience. I am from Texas and can tell some amazing stories about life in the wild west. I am patient, pick up after myself, and generally like all people.

Countries I’ve Visited

England, Mexico, Scotland
