About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To learn, to experience, to change the world for the better

ABOUT ME

I hate these sections because I have a tendency to over romanticize my life. It would be easy to say that I used to be a high-flying executive with a cushy job and a driver and my own house who then chucked it all up for a life on the road, but that would be putting a spin on things. The fact is, I was happy living the life of a corporate suit, but I needed more freedom. I wanted to break free of the grind.

So, in December 2012, I sold my house, quit my job and I'm spending a year on the road (to begin with) in North and South America, getting to know as many people as I can possibly meet!

I care deeply about some very odd things in some very odd ways. I have less than conventional views about the environment (it's too late for us to slow down global warming, time to start thinking about how we will survive the upcoming resource wars) time (it doesn't exist. Probably) the universe (there isn't just one. Possibly) and bacon (yum.) I also like parentheses.

L33t speak, AOLingo, and typin lyk dis pisses me off. (Smileys are ok!)

I'm pretty friendly, love to help out with problems even if that means just sitting and listening for a while.

You can read all about my adventures on my blog, http://www.vahishta.com

PHILOSOPHY

Everything ends. Do important stuff as soon as you can.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I can host people (have hosted them before, in fact) help show newbies around the city of Mumbai and introduce most people to New Mumbai, a satellite city that's, well, just more fun, frankly!

Right now, though, I'm traveling across the US and South America, so I suppose my participation will be all the surfing I do, on couches from the east coast to the west!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've recently graduated from being a part-time host to welcoming the experience of sharing my home with a traveller (or travellers!) and now I will be surfing as a more or less full-time thing. I've had nothing but good experiences with CS. Hope to continue the trend!

Interests

Well my travels will be taking me to a lot of national parks and hiking venues, so I have to say that camping and hiking are my number one interest area at the moment. If you know of a cool trail you've always wanted to explore and need a partner to come with, I'm your guy!

Apart from that though, I'm really interested in technology, the internet, cool websites, art (digital / contemporary) photography, movies (to a great extent), music (to a lesser extent), TV shows, reading (I have a huge collection, my current favorite genres are sci-fi and non-fiction war stories)...

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Waaaaaaay too many to name, but in terms of I-Can-Always-Watch-This: Star Wars (original trilogy only), Con Air (you can roll your eyes now), The Shawshank Redemption, Star Trek (the new one, although I could watch ToS at any point)

Music: Just a few bands come to mind: The Beatles, Death Cab For Cutie... My tastes change extremely violently, so don't be surprised to see me listening to trance one day and classical music the next...

Books: Current favorites: Alastair Reynolds, Peter F Hamilton

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The most amazing thing I've ever seen is my very first website going live - its like having a baby but far more geeky than that!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can evaluate CMS software given a specific need or plan a digital marketing campaign. I can teach you how to kill a man in 5 seconds with your bare hands. I can lie with a straight face. I can lie on a mattress, too, but that's less special. I can (probably) tell you what's wrong with your [insert electronic device here].
