About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Find a new mission....!

ABOUT ME

I moved to Toronto about a year ago for a fabulous new job which, 11 months later, I still absolutely love. I just finished my PhD in psychology, and am thrilled by the sudden influx of spare time, letting me explore things that I've been meaning to do for YEARS but put off because I was too busy with school and work. I'm totally excited about life in Toronto, and about sharing my city with people from all over the world.

I like to spend time with my surfers, but I also have a soft spot for academics, and will always try to make a spot available for students who are traveling to a conference, etc. - I was recently in that lifestyle myself, and know that travel funding NEVER actually meets travel expenses!

PHILOSOPHY

All my life's a circle, and all my roads have bends. There's no clear-cut beginning, and so far - no dead ends. - Harry Chapin

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I host, I travel, I attend (or sometimes organize) the occasional event....

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've done a ton of CouchSurfing, although not always officially through this site! I lived in Bulgaria for two years with the Peace Corps, and was always either hosting or staying with other volunteers (both in/from Bulgaria & neighbouring countries), their friends and families.

Since finding the site, I have met some absolutely amazing people through CouchSurfing, some of whom I'm still in touch with several years later. I absolutely adore CS - I find that you experience a place in an entirely different way when you stay with someone who lives there, as compared to staying in a hostel with other tourists and making your way with a guidebook!

Interests

Social justice, volunteering, cooking, reading. Good food, good wine, good beer! My dog, Ben Houdini. Hanging out on patios in the summer, or going somewhere to hear live music. TRAVEL, and having adventures wherever I go!

Music, Movies, and Books

Some musical favorites are Bowling for Soup, the Decemberists, Wilco and Son Volt, along with the Lightning Seeds and Harry Chapin. My favorite movie is Cemetery Man (zombie camp, awesome), and I'll read just about anything I can get my hands on, but especially science fiction and mystery.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The pyramids in Egypt, the Great Barrier Reef.
