One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Amongst my travels this year I was lucky enough to visit Rio Negro in the Amazon. While hiking, the tour guide pointed to an bullet ant hill, and proceeded to explain the passing of adulthood ritual that the boys in the region had to endure at 13.(See it on youtube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9WQ6rFKhyn0) These kids endure the bites of ants for days at a time. So after hearing the story, I thought since I'm on an adventure, let's be adventurous. Y'know...just one bite.To date, I am the third person stupid enough in the guide's 15 years of working to volunteer and get bitten. (Of course he tells me this after my hand looked like a grenade) It stayed swollen for about three days and pulsated with pain for about a week.I'm glad I tried it. You only live once.
