About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To create art, make contacts with indigenous cutures, work to help ensure their survival, celebrate life through art and ceremony, collect and create stories to pass on.

ABOUT ME

I am an artist, teacher and storyteller. I am of European and Cherokee descent,a member of the Cherokee tribe. I am a painter, sculptor, and maskmaker, and show at American Indian art shows around the USA as well as galleries. I am also involved in traditional spiritual ways and ceremony, and work to preserve traditional Indigenous culture, through participating in and organizing conferences worldwide. I have traveled extensively, and take several months each year to travel.

PHILOSOPHY

I think we are here to celebrate life and love, and to realize and live the truth that resides in our hearts and minds.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am interested in meeting people of different cultures, sharing art and story, as I travel the world.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have traveled in various parts of the world, and visited many tribes, sharing my culture and learning of theirs. I have found many similarities in Indigenous cultures worldwide. I have toured as a speaker and storyteller in little known parts of the world. Some of my most rewarding experiences have been with tribal children, in their schools.

Music, Movies, and Books

Louise Ehrdrich and Christopher Moore are currently my favorite authors. I like any good movie. Music, folk music has always been my favorite, also East Indian claassical music, tribal music, kirtan.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have seen many amazing things. Last year I saw the Kailash temple at Ellora, in India, which is maybe eight stories high, carved of one piece of stone, taking 250 years to make. That was impressive!

Teach, Learn, Share

I teach American Indian Arts as an artist in residence in the USA. I also teach about Indigenous culture and ceremony. I tell stories, specializing in Cherokees stories, but interested in stories from around the world.

What I Can Share with Hosts

STORIES, lots of stories. And art, and music.

Countries I’ve Visited

Afghanistan, Costa Rica, Guatemala, India, Mexico, Nepal, Netherlands, Nicaragua, Peru, Switzerland, Thailand

Countries I’ve Lived In
