About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Initally I was looking for a couch in NYC, but surfing on this site has made me think how fascinating it would be to meet interesting folks from everywhere.

ABOUT ME

I live in the Sierra Foothills, just off I-80-a half hour drive to snow and an hour to North Lake Tahoe. I am not sporty, but do go to the gym to stay in shape. I have done theatre on and off since I was 9 and am hoping to do much more now that I have more time on my hands. I have been with my boyfriend for 20 plus years who lives with me, (and who is sporty) along with 2 small dogs and a big siamese cat. RIGHT NOW AM REMODELING SO NO COUCH BUT WHEN I AM AVAILABLE, I have a comfortable guest room or 2 depending on the need. Typically, I am a very private person who likes to read, watch movies, and am somewhat of a community activist when the need is there. I parle un petit peu, and can get by in fractured French if a surfer has fractured English. I am interested in NYC surfing as I have research to do at the NY Botanical Museum. It might take a week or week and a half. I'm quiet and enjoy good food and good wine. I can carry on a decent conversation!! My social work experience is in individuals with special needs, child protective services, and residential treatment. I taught English briefly.

PHILOSOPHY

Never tell a lie.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am interested in meeting people, and defraying the cost of travel. I have hosted and once my remodeling is done will do that again

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Have hosted once, not surfed though, but have enjoyed the hospitality of strangers at various times in my life. Those experiences have seered themselves into my memory, and are among the most interesting I've ever had. I was traveling alone with my cockapoo from CT to CA, when my car would not go over a mountain in AZ. It was 1 am. Along came a guy who actually had lived in Bloomington IN which was on my license plate, and where I had just finished grad school. He let me and my dog sleep on the floor at his house, a stones throw from where I broke down. In the am, he showed me what I was doing wrong, driving and I finished my journey. Have travelled in Europe a few times.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I did witness a miracle. A social worker that I worked with had a type of disorder which had always been called ataxia. It had involved walking by twirling. Another social worker in our office read a small article in the paper about this disorder, which was genetic. The man's son was also beginning to exhibit the disorder. Testing revealed both had the gene, and began a simple medication regimen that greatly improved our colleague's gait, and controlled his son's symptoms completely. It was the kind of serendipity that to me, was some kind of miracle.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am old enough to have had a lot of life experience. I know something of the world, and have practical knowledge from my career that I can share. I do love all animals. I love to help others.
