About Me

CURRENT MISSION

form new friendships with men and women of all ages

ABOUT ME

I grew up in the suburbs of Boston and spent my twenties trying out different jobs, travelling, living in shared apartments, taking classes, and being part of a dance collective/community called Dance Friday where we danced freestyle to rock music every week. I also decided I wanted to become a therapist, went to social work school, and worked for 3 years with psychotic and mentally retarded adults. When I was 33, I met my husband and we moved to northern Vermont to live in the country. We have 2 children (now 22 and 20 years old) whom we homeschooled all the way through school. I was the "stay-at-home" mom and my husband worked nearby. Eventually, both our kids went to college in Maine, and my husband and I are in the process of "reinventing" our lives, individually and together. I am very excited to be returning to working as a therapist, but now that our kids aren't at home much, I really need new people and activities in my life. I have close friends and family, but that's not enough. I have lots of energy, curiosity about people and life, and drive to connect with people. I'm excited to see who will be the "new" people in my life!

PHILOSOPHY

I believe in taking care of the people in my life and the communities I am part of, including the natural world. I try to live as much as possible with an open heart and mind.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Couchsurfing reaffirms my belief that you can find friendship and community all over, if you are open to trusting and sharing yourself. I participate by staying with couchsurfers, with the idea of sharing our life experiences and maybe becoming "friends". I am also happy to have people visit our home and see how we live.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

A friend and I went on a bike trip last summer and stayed with a couple in Quebec; my husband and I stayed with a family in central Maine and with a woman in southern Maine; and recently my son and I stayed for a couple of nights with a new couchsurfing friend in Montreal. We have only had one couchsurfer so far at our house, maybe because we live in a somewhat isolated, rural area. It was really fun to host a wonderful guy from Australia who was hiking the nearby Long Trail. All of my experiences have been exciting and very positive.

Music, Movies, and Books

Foreign films, danceable rock music or rock/folk music with interesting lyrics; fiction by William Faulkner, John Steinbeck, Jane Austen, George Eliot, and recently Joan Collins. Women mystery writers like Elisabeth George, Nevada Barr, and Deborah Crombie. Nonfiction on wide range of psychology topics, most recently Living on the Wind, Across the Hemisphere with Migratory Birds by Scott Weidensaul.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Being at the births of four people

Teach, Learn, Share

I could share my knowledge of how to live in the country, how to garden organically and cook the food you grow. I also know how to organize and be part of a dance community. I know about how to homeschool and how to be a good listener and therapist. I would like to become fluent in French and to learn to speak Spanish. I want to learn how to grow blueberries and currents, and to make cassis...and to bake really good bread.
