About Me

We are from Reunion Island which is a French territory, east of Africa, near Mauritius.

I am a lot into artistic stuff. I paint, play the guitar and the piano and would like to draw and publish my own graphic novel in some not-so-distant future. Some of my work is here https://www.instagram.com/illustridees/. I have a passion for horse-riding and for dancing.
I do enjoy science too, especially neuroscience and everything that has to do with the functioning of the brain and the human psyche.
Didier is a geek who specialised in JRR Tolkiens's works at university. He is a qualified teacher of English as a second language. He is interested in science, especially astrophysics, plays squash, airsoft and we both love role-playing games, like Dungeons & Dragons, the old-fashioned way, around a table with people and dice

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We are on couchsurfing because, face it, it's cheap but that's not at all the main reason as we can completely afford to travel less cheaply and more comfortably. We don't like hotels and believe that the best way to know a country is to know its society and its people. Above all we want to meet real people living in real communities. We prefer reality, albeit grim, to beautiful lies. We're not just saying that. Hotels are depressingly formatted. You might as well stay in your home country.

Music, Movies, and Books

Way too many things to mention here

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was travelling to Ireland. I was tired and didn't want to drink any alcohol. With my partner we've decided to walk to the Temple Bar and we were really decided about any drinks. But...when we entered the Temple..the music was so magical and people were so joyful...everything was warm. Anyway, we drank and got sick...but what a party !
Didier: I went to Mauritius years ago and was out of the usual touristy thing and stayed in a cheap family BnB in Mahébourg. It was an opportunity to learn about the rather harsh realities of Mauritius. If you go to a hotel, you don't get to do what I did (going to the public hospital with sick daughter, taking a derelict bus to go to a rather dirty yet authentic beach with normal people amongst many other things). The Mauritians I met were a lot warmer and nicer than the ones tourists normally get to see. It was a bit sad at times but great with lots of interesting lifebites. Loved it

Teach, Learn, Share

We won't teach you but we might know a few things you'll enjoy to learn.
Didier likes talking and Estelle is a good listener.
We both take pride (and often pain) in being free thinkers. It is not the easiest thing these days but it can't be helped. Neither of us believes that their views are unique but they tend to be strong, carefully thought over and usually quite well documented.
