About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to see more of the world and meet people from all over it

ABOUT ME

I grew up in the wonderful city of Providence, Rhode Island USA, which is quite near Quahog. As a child I never got to travel outside of North America. This is typical for many Americans but not for my family, as my dad was quite the traveler himself and wanted his kids to experience the world as well. Alas I was the middle child, so after sending my older brother and younger sister to Paris and Ghana respectively, my parents realized that we had no money so I should get a summer job :-|

Naturally, when I got a chance to study abroad in college it made perfect sense to go as far away from home as possible. So I borrowed my friend's see-through globe and decided to go to Singapore. While there, I traveled all over Southeast Asia and soon realized that I LOVE traveling. But it's not as much about geographical location (though natural wonders and historical glimpses are pretty sweet too), it's the fact that I absolutely love meeting people of different backgrounds and cultures.

So I joined couchsurfing as a host at first. Then I finished college and decided that I hadn't seen enough of the world to settle down yet, so I found an internship in Germany and used that as a springboard to couchsurf through Europe. Since then, I have lived in Singapore (again), Providence RI, Boston MA, and now San Jose CA -- and couchsurfing/hosting has continued to be a part of my life throughout.

PHILOSOPHY

Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

Ok actually that's Lao-Tze, not me, but when I'm all grown up I really hope to come up with something deep like that.

Interests

I love meeting new people and have never been embarassed to start conversations with strangers. (I've never understood how so many people can sit silently on the subway and never bother to discover something interesting about the person across from them!)I love running, partly because I like to compete but mostly because when I miss a day of it I turn into that kid whose friend dared him to eat all the sugar packets at McDonald's. I also love playing music--especially piano/organ--dancing (sometimes I break out into dance spontaneously), clubbing, hacking the sack, going on random adventures, the environment, throat-singing, playing chess, and being silly.
