About Me

CURRENT MISSION

See the rain forest in Washington state!!

ABOUT ME

I love meeting unique people to share eccentricities, good ideas, good taste in music, drinks or whatever it is you've got to share. I enjoy reading, cooking, politics, learning, music, mountains, a good corner bar (I'm from Milwaukee, you know).I'm spending the summer traveling through the Pacific Northwest. I'm going backpacking, fishing, and wandering throughg Oregon. I'll also be visiting Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver BC. I plan on applying to graduate school next year to study political economy, which hopefully will become a career for me.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I couchsurfed in Boston, Washington D.C., Oaxaca and Mexico City. I made great friends there. I've hosted a small number of folks in Minneapolis and have had great experiences.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've met many great people through cs. I have been amazed by the generosity of my hosts. In Mexico City, Oaxaca City, and Washington DC I had hosts who opened their home to me (or in one case their family's hotel!) and made sure I had a great time. Its not about money--staying with couchsurfers made my time in Mexico a thousand times better.

Music, Movies, and Books

City of Thieves by Dave Benioff. Sometimes a Great Notion by Ken Kessey! (That was the best book I've ever read.) The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck, Miami by Joan Didion. Zeitoon by Dave Eggers. I read a lot of non-fiction, I especially like reading about history and political economy.
For music, I have wide tastes. I like Tom Waits, Neil Young, Blackalicious...I used to listen to a lot of indie music...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In Chiapas, Mexico I stayed in two different small autonomous Zapatista communities in the mountains, and met wonderful people.. The Zapatistas had a revolution in 1994. Since kicking the government out of their villages and appropriating and collectivizing a bunch of land they've been working on building a mayan-influenced direct democracy.
