ABOUT ME

Marissa:
i've been called a tree hugger. sometimes i wish i lived in the mountains so i could snowboard more often. im a vegetarian and a huge breakfast/brunch fan. my so-far accomplished 09 resolutions include: joining a local CSA, brewing beer...oh and eloping and honeymooning around Ireland! i report litterbugs. im a big tipper and a big yawner. I try to support local businesses and avoid chains. im also trying to completely furnish our new home through recycled stuff from craigslist,yard sales, etc. im not a real girly-girl and i suck @ 'accessorizing'. I need sushi once a week (yes im that kind of vegetarian). i take my own bags to the grocery store & can't for the life of me understand how some people just don't recycle. i used to be more of a night owl than a morning person...until ash, lu & chauncey changed my ways. I enjoy: good beer and wine, a good book, playing disc golf, horseshoes and bocce @ the beach, shooting pool, watching movies and shopping @ the farmers market, fleamarkets & thrift stores. Im a steelers fan. I like folk art & folk music. I like to support local artists esp. the ones who find ways to recycle stuff into art. I listen to NPR daily for whats going on in the world but also love looking @ the trashy celeb mags in the grocery check-out line! i love old stuff like classic cars, retro/antique furniture and vintage clothes. that's enough right?

Ashley:
I am laid back and very shy until I get to know you. I love good food and really enjoy craft beer. Of course sports are high on the list, and I love being outdoors. I have a new obsession called Disc Golf. I'm an avid player and enjoy turning people onto the sport. Ive been lucky enough to be able to share this great game with several CS'ers in the past. We aren't just throwing frisbees. ;-)

I have a love for beer that few will understand. From brewing at home to touring breweries...if it deals with malts and hops you can believe I am interested.

PHILOSOPHY

M: Treat others the way you want them to treat you...as ben said on Lost "karma is a fickle bitch".

A: Someone else has always done it before you. Why not be that someone that everyone else follows.

We surf, we host (we would love to host more - hint, hint). Our first international surfing was in Ireland for our elopement/wedding/honeymoon in Sept. 09 and we hope to do it again...maybe i'll take Ash to guatemala...we'll see.

Marissa:
being a lover of travel and having friends spread out across the US & other countries, i have done my fair share of couch surfing. From visiting fellow peace corps volunteers around Guatemala while serving there a few years back to living/traveling out west on a school bus for 6mths back when i took a year off college, I have done some couch surfing/car sleeping/backyard camping! i was so happy to find this site and so happy that my then-boyfriend, now-husband was down with it as well! we have had nothing but amazing experiences both hosting and surfing through cs!

M: reading, hiking & camping w/ ash & the dogs, brewing (& drinking) good beer, photography, gardening, spending time w/family, refinshing furniture and home decorating and of course traveling via couchsurfing!

A: I have a whole new appreciation for travel, so finding my paradise is at the top of my list.

As mentioned earlier, I am really interested in beer. I enjoy the outdoors- camping, hiking, kayaking, mtn biking, and disc golf.

Trying new things...I get bored easily, so something new and exciting always grabs my attention.

M: Love snuggling with ash & pups and watchin movies...right now we are addicted to Weeds...love it! also love romance flics (i am a hopeless romantic), comedies, movies that make you think like Crash or cool documentaries that help you see what's goin on in other cultures like The Weeping Camel and Whale Rider. A few favs: Big Fish, Little Miss Sunshine, Almost Famous, Forces of Nature, A Love Song for Bobby Long, Garden State, Erin Brockovich, Forrest Gump, True Romance, What's Eating Gilbert Grape? Remember the Titans (i love football flics), The Fastest Indian, Slingblade...oh and i hate scary horror movies!

Music: bob marley, pearl jam, jack johnson, mason jennings, OAR, ani defranco, blind melon, the dead, jane's addiction, the black keys, bss, shakira (preferably in spanish), the shins (they'll change your life...hee-hee), beck, ben harper...to name a few. i love all kinds of music though...from dylan & zeppelin to zac brown band, tool and the weepies

Books: anything by Barbara Kingsolver, Tom Robbins, or Gabriel Marcia Marquez, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho (tried it in spanish but finished in english), Eat Love Pray, anything thats helps me explore/learn about another culture

drove a school bus from NC to Cali and then hitchhiked back across the US in '96 - Humbolt Co, Cali to Boone, NC after giving the bus away

spent 2 years of my life living/helping the people of San Antonio Sacatepequez, San Rafael, Neuva Jerusalem, Santa Rosa de Lima and Tojchina, Guatemala as a Peace Corps volunteer

oh and I jumped out of a plane once...that was cool

We are foodies & craft beer snobs (ash more because he has the sophisticated palette :) so we will probably share some homegrown goodness from our garden if you come when the garden is producing as well as our latest fav beer. Oh and ash is on a disc golf kick lately so if you've never played he could teach you or if you play we could take you to a local course!
